| Ben was taking a long lunch after a long morning and possibly a longer afternoon. he had been called in early, apparently the nypd needed more reinforcements. they had gotten a bomb threat that morning for time square and they needed more bodies, especially those who had bomb experience. apparently his commanding officer told them he would be perfect for the job. so, he and aldo got a police escort to times square from fort Hamilton. he suggested getting myla, but since she was retired they weren’t sure if they wanted to do that to her. he almost scoffed at them, myla could handle anything. but, he wasn’t going to argue. aldo would do and it wasn’t like he could easily handle two dogs are once. he spent about five hours walking around times square with aldo, doing random searches. people didn’t question him because he was in his uniform, he actually was accepted more than the officers. he though it was rather entertaining.
he had gone to get a quick bite before he started to walk around, he was headed back when he got the call that they caught the guy that was the treat, had been taken into custody. he did have a bag of explosives, a book bag stuffed with black cats. he really did scoff that time, he was taken from base just because of some stupid guy with some fire crackers. that wouldn’t have hurt anyone, it would have scared a lot of people, but there would have been minimal to no damage. it wasn’t even a minute after getting off the phone with the police chief that his commanding officer called him and told him he could have the rest of the day off, after the paper work was completed.
he was given a ride back to fort Hamilton, he put aldo back in his kennel after getting him settled with food and water. he went into the office and did his paperwork before he headed home. he got myla and went out again, after changing out of him uniform. he started to walk again, he was full from lunch and he didn’t want to be stuck in his apartment all day. he knew that myla didn’t either. since they were both pretty active, they headed towards the park. it was cold, he definitely missed Georgia on days that he needed to wear gloved and a hat. but, he didn’t mind it that much, it got cold in Georgia and it got cold in the desert as well.
he didn't mind it in new york either, he enjoyed walking around. there was something about new york in the winter time that he liked so far. he was sure he would change his tune when a blizzard came or his pipes froze, but at least at this moment, he liked it. in the park was no different, since it was the middle of the day it was relatively quite, or at least as quiet as this city could get. |

Gracelyn was scared. Never in her life would she ever see herself in this situation. She was a known model. Not for swimsuits or underwear like most asked her about but for magazine shoots and such. She had even been asked to be in a film but turned it down because she was afraid of being on stage, even though half of her career, no more than half of her career she was behind a camera. She just didn't understand what God could have wanted with her. Why was he punishing her? Grace was not a bad person and never took the Lord's name in vain. She didn't sleep around and was still a virgin. She even volunteered to help the homeless from time to time. Why did this happen to her?
Life was going so good. She was finally becoming something, someone. But maybe that was just it. Maybe it was just that that made her manager take advantage of her. She was actually enjoying herself at a party for once and for the first time had drank too much. It was a night of many firsts and many she wished she could take back. The one person she was suppose to be able to trust decided he would take advantage of her in her moment of weakness. He took her home to her apartment and took her inside. She was drunk that she didn't really even notice what was going on and when she did it was far too late. Grace was so far gone that night that she doesn't even remember most of the details. She remembers pain and flashes of Dale's naked body on hers but that was really it. However, in the morning it was all clear to her. Blood on the bed sheets and sore between her legs. The one person she was suppose to trust as a model, her agent, had raped her.
However, being naive and scared didn't help her at all. Gracelyn never went to the cops about what happened and by now it was too late. For the first month or two she went on as nothing happened. She just made sure to never put herself in that situation again and made sure to never be alone with Dale again. But other than that, she kept on with her life. That is, until she started getting sick. The littlest things made her nauseus, things that never used to make her feel that way. Grace could tell something was wrong so she went to the doctor and as a precaution she took the pregnancy test, not thinking it could ever be positive. But in her horror, the nurse came back with the results. "You are pregnant." Those were the last words Grace wanted to hear.
Terrified couldn't even begin to explain how Grace felt. She felt more alone then ever now and had no idea what to do. So she now finds herself back where she was born, New York. She decided to come back to what she knew and rekindle relationships she had once lost. Hopefully she could find a friend or two to help her through all of this. She was so confused, so lost. Grace had yet to even tell her parents about her being pregnant and having to pause her modeling career. She knew her mother would be very disapointed in her, even angry. Modeling and paegents was all she knew. Now what?
Gracelyn needed to get some fresh air. She needed to get out of her apartment and stop wallowing in her sorrow. What was, was. What could she do about it? Nothing. She was alone in this so far and dealing with it but it was hard. Deciding she wanted to go for a walk, she got dressed and put on a coat, it was chilly anyway. She grabbed her gloves and her hat and scarf. She was much more sensative to the cold now. Grace didn't really care if she looked rediculous anymore. What was to come would be much worse.
It was chilly out but suprisingly it wasn't too bad. She could have done without the scarf but oh well. Grace decided she would walk around for a bit, watch the people who also felt the need to be in the park today. Even in this weather, people still found themselves in the park playing frisbee or catch or even playing football when there weren't too many kids running around. There were some people out with their dogs as well and that made her smile. Someday soon she would get herself a dog. She had always wanted one but was always so busy but all she wanted now was someone to love her and be there unconditionally for her and a dog was what came to mind. Men right now were far from that list because of what happened. Were all men that greedy? Did they all take what they wanted from women? She really didn't know nor undertand them. It wasn't one of her topics while growing up as she had many other things on her mind. But as she walked, her mind wandered, not even paying attention to where she was going and one of the men who was playing frisbee went back to catch it and ran right into her, knocking her down.
"Watch it!!!" He yelled at her, giving her a mean nasty look and then walking away, not even offering to help her up, leaving her there on the ground.

| if ben was being honest with himself he would admit that he was grateful that the park wasn’t as busy as it normally was. he wasn’t a fan of big groups. he could blame the desert for that, but he wouldn’t, because he was committed to the army at he wasn’t going to blame all of his problems on them. he didn’t big groups, that wasn’t a crime. now fireworks were another problem, those got him way too nervous. working with bombs, he really couldn’t settle down once the fireworks started going off.
he wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary. not today, well, not anymore. he did think the people that didn’t have coats or anything on and were playing sports were kind of insane. he was all game for sports, but, he would much rather there be no snow on the ground when he was playing. that’s when he saw it. he knew myla saw it, he watched her tense up, her hair went up on ends on her back. he tried to calm her, but it didn’t work. he watched as a man with a Frisbee knocked over a young woman. he wasn’t going to just let that go. but what could he do? myla on the other hand didn’t hesitate. she lunged on her long leash, a harsh sounding snarl came from her, he’d only heard that sound come from her when they were in the desert. he thought the guy got the message since he looked back and started to run.
ben looked at the man with a glare that could kill, maybe the guy knew that he could kill too. he walked over to the lady and sighed quietly. ”are you okay?” he asked, he didn’t even realize when his accented voice changed, it became a little softer, deeper. this was a side that not many people didn’t get the pleasure of seeing. this closed off army man had a softer side. his country boy upbringing was coming out; his gentleman side. even myla calmed down and walked over to the lady and sniffed her before she sat down in front of her.
he shook his head and held out his hand to help her. ”jackass.” he mumbled under his breath, still looking at the now frightened guy. served him right. he helped her up and carefully looked over her, not in a perverse way, but in a way that he was used to. making sure there were no open wounds, broken bones, there was no blood or any other problems. he let go of her hand after he knew she was stable. normally, he would just walk away, but he couldn’t. he could tell there was something different and even myla was sticking close to her. he looked down at older dog. ”I think my dog likes you.” he said with a small smirk that seemed to disappear faster than it was on his lips. ”I’m Ben… and this is myla…” he said politely. he had to be polite. that’s how he was raised. just like you were never supposed to just walk away after you knock someone over and especially never be rude to a lady.

Luckily as she fell to the ground she caught herself for the most part, not hurting herself too much in the fall. She sat there almost bewildered and caught off guard just as much as the guy who knocked her down. Only her eyes grew slightly at the reaction the man had and at his rudeness. It wasn't like she was out to get him and purposely ran into him. Trust me, if she was to run into anyone, it wouldn't have been this asshole. Grace didn't know what else to say to him as he walked off. However, it seemed that it wasn't just the two of them that had been involved in the entire thing.
Gracelyn heard growling nearby and turned her head to see the aging german shephard lunged at the man as he walked away from her, causing Gracelyn to flinch slightly. She didn't know if the dog was aggressive or what but it sounded angry. But before she could think anymore on it, another man was there, his voice hiding an accent. It was soft in a way and deep but in a soothing way. "Are you okay?" Grace wasn't expecting anyone to stop and ask her if she was okay but then she didn't think anyone else saw what happened. Clearly she was wrong in both senses. The german shephard, which clearly belonged to this man, calmed down and walked over to Grace who was wary at first but relaxed as it seemed the dog too was now relaxed and comfortable, fiding a spot to sit down in front of her.
She looked up at the man who was now offering his hand to help her up. She heard him mumble something under his breath but didn't quite hear it. He helped her to her feet and she steadied herself, brushing herself off. Her butt was a little cold from the ground and her wrist hurt a little from catching herself but other than that she was fine. She noticed him looking her over as well but not in a bad way, possibly also checking to make sure she was okay. He let go of her hand and part of her didn't want him to let go. She felt safe when he was holding her. It was odd how someone could feel such things with someone she didn't even know.
Grace looked down, giving a smile to the dog who was as well sticking close to her. "I think my dog likes you." She looked up at him. Was that not something that happened often, she wondered to herself. He had a smirk on his lips but it was quickly gone. Interesting. "I am Ben...and this is Myla." He was very polite and kind to her so far. Something about him though, she just couldn't put her finger on it. "Thank you so much Ben, you have been so kind." She gave a small genuine smile, "I am Gracelyn. It is nice to meet the both of you." She didn't notice until now just how much her wrist did hurt. She gently rubbed it, trying not to wince too much as she spoke with Ben. It was probably nothing.

| Ben had to stop himself from brushing her off. he wasn’t used to being around women, at least not women that couldn’t kill him if they wanted to. there were a few women he worked with and they were not the type of women you could push around. not that he wanted to push them around. he would never dream of that actually. he didn’t know who stupid he was at the moment, but he felt something different about this woman. he never noticed women, well he did, but he didn’t actually pursue anyone. from what he could tell, women messed with your career and then you had to worry about them along with the job. he did feel something though and the fact that myla was standing with her protectively made her wonder. his dog wasn’t a normal dog, she had been trained from a young age to be a protective dog, to not let people get in her way. she had worked with bombs since she was about eleven months old.
His head nodded slightly. ”It’s not a problem. that guy is a jerk… any decent man would help up the person they knock over.” he said simply. he was a little surprised by her smile but he couldn’t help but give her a smile back. ”it’s nice to meet you Gracelyn.” he said softly. he caught onto her rubbing her wrist and he suddenly felt worried for her. ”you hurt your wrist.” he stated, it wasn’t a question, but an observation. ”I can help you if you want… um… I have training..” he said looking around for a minute. ”we can go somewhere warm and I can look at it.. I’m not a doctor.. but I have first aid training and such… I’m in the Army.” he didn’t want to brag about that, but he could help her if she wanted him to.
he might not be a doctor, but if it was simple he could fix her up.. or he could just fix it up to get her through until she could go to the doctor to get it looked at. he didn’t think it was such a big deal to help her, it was just something he was trained to do. something he knew that would be expected of him from any of his commanding officers to help those in need and more importantly of his family.

Gracelyn was greatful for this man and his dog. They both came in at the right moment. For a while, Grace wouldn't have even wanted to be near the man. The thought of men was really ruined by Dale. Everything he did made her hate men, which she knew was a horrible reason to hate men in general but she had nothing good to think about them. Dale had always been there for her during her career and she thought she could trust him. You're suppose to be able to trust you manager as they are in charge of a large part of your career but after the inncident, Grace wasn't really sure what he was in it for. She had put her trust in him and maybe that was where she went wrong. She had always far too trusting and tried to see the best in everyone, but look where that got her. So she looked back at the man in front of her, helping her up. Could she really trust him?
"It's not a problem. That guy is a jerk...any decent man would help up the person they knock over." He said it very matter of factly. Bethany noticed him give her a smile back. That made her feel good. "It's nice to meet you Gracelyn." Grace liked his voice. It was soft yet deep and mysterious. He looked to be one that held so many emotions back. Those people could be dangerous as well. She gave him a warm, genuine smile.
She flinched when he spoke next, "You hurt your wrist." This guy didn't really miss much. He was very attentive to things around him. Curious. "Yeah, I think I did something to it when I caught myself. It's probably nothing." Of course she didn't know that for sure though, holding her wrist. "I can help you if you want...um...I have training." There was a pause for a moment, watching him look around for a moment. "We can go somewhere warm and I can look at it...I'm not a doctor...but I have first aid training and such..I'm in the army." That explained a lot. The fact he was in the military explained a lot of what she noticed about him. The seriousness about him. The wanting to help her. It all made sense now.
Gracelyn nodded. "Getting somewhere warm does sound like a good idea, maybe a warm drink." She didn't even realize until she had said it already that she pretty much just asked this guy to have coffee or something with her. She was cursing herself in her mind as she stood there. She wasn't going to say anything yet but her wrist was throbbing pretty good now.

| Ben was a little shocked at himself. Normal people would help them up and then leave. That was it. But no, he had to be a hero and help her. he had to do it. he wasn’t sure if he would regret this or not. but he was beginning to loosen up with her pretty looks and her sweet temper she seemed to have. he stopped short for a moment, did she asked him for coffee? he couldn’t help but smile a little at her for a moment. ”A warm drink would be great..” he paused and looked at Myla. He was concerned for a moment that his beloved dog and partner wouldn’t be able to go in with them, but then he thought for a moment and reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. he looked in it before pulling out a card. ”there is a place just down the road..” he suggested.
he tugged slightly on Myla, who gave him a rude look. he smirked slightly at the dog. he looked at Gracelyn with a small smirk. ”she doesn’t like to be bossed around… with her old age and retirement she thinks she rules the roost.” he said teasing. he could try to make her relax and make himself relax a little more. he had to try and get out of his army mind set at the moment and just be a regular guy that just happened to be helping a pretty blonde with her wrist over coffee. it was all innocent right? he started to walk with her towards the direction of someone of the many coffee shops that was in this huge city. he was shocked sometimes about this city, how many coffee shops did they have in this city?
he looked at her for a moment as they walked. ”So.. Gracelyn.. how is your day going? Besides you getting knocked over…” he asked her. He was suddenly interested in knowing about this woman. He wanted to know more about her and he wanted to know what made this young lady tick and everything. he didn’t know what was so suddenly wrong with him.

GRACELYN PORTER | |
Gracelyn watched Ben. She was very curious about this man. She didn't usually come in contact with men or just people in general that were so kind. It was hard for her to trust anyone anymore. Him being a stranger she knew she shouldn't trust this man, at least not as much as she already did. It was strange how the world worked in its mysterious ways. Even now, with Grace asking this man for a coffee. It was the least she could do for him helping her out. He was already more generous then the man who actually knocked her down, who just looked at her and wrote her off as someone who didn't matter. "A warm drink would be great.." She saw him look down at the dog. Oh crap, of course, the dog. she didn't think about how most shops and such wouldn't allow dogs in. Maybe they could make an exception? "There is a place just down the road.." She looked up from the dog and looked at Ben. "Oh? It's been a while since I have been around here so I don't really know whats good anymore." She said lightly.
Grace watched the two, Ben and Myla, interact. They were quite the pair. They seemed to be very close and she liked that. Grace was hoping to get a dog soon. She had always wanted a dog and right now, she really wanted the company as well. Grace saw the smirk on Ben's lips and it made a smile be places upon hers as well. "She doesn't like to be bossed around..with her old age and retirement, she thinks she rules the root." The blonde giggled at that. Retirement? She wondered what she could have retired from. There were many things a dog could do. Grace thought about this for a moment as she began to walk with Ben to the place he said they should go. The thought of coffee and being warm sounded very good at that moment. It woudl also give her a chance to look at her wrist in more detail.
"So..Gracelyn.. how is your day going? Besides you getting knocked over.." She gave him a small smile, but is slowly disapeared while she thought about how her day really was going. It was going pretty poorly actually until she was helped up off the ground by Ben. However, she really wasn't sure how in depth she really wanted to go. "Well, let's just say, this is the highlight of my day. You made my day much better. She then looked over at him, her cheeks slightly pink as she blushed. She never was all that great at talking to men, let alone one as handsome as Ben was. However, it wasn't just Ben that was making her nervous. This man really had no idea what he was walking into with Gracelyn and she wasn't sure she really wanted to tell him, not yet anyway. Who knows, this could be the first and last time she would ever see this man and his dog. She hoped that wasn't going to be the case but she had no idea. "What about you Ben? How is your day going?" She flashed a smile at him, her eyes twinkling, something they hadn't done in a long time.

| Ben wasn’t going to argue with himself anymore. He was just going to go with it and see what happened. Who knew, he might never see this girl again. But at least he would be able to say that he actually did something today. He heard her say this was the highlight of her day and he frowned slightly. He didn’t know if he liked that or not. ”I’m sorry that I’m the highlight of your day.” he said softly, his frown staying in place. He walked with her, suddenly worried about this woman. What could be wrong? He didn’t know why he wanted to help her so badly.
He listened to her question and gave her a smirk. ”Umm.. this is absolutely the highlight of my day..” he said with a deep chuckle. he didn’t know if it was a smart thing to mention the botched bomb threat in times square though, so he didn’t go into details. He liked when she smiled and the twinkle in her eyes didn’t get past him. He liked that and he wanted to see it like that. He didn’t know why he felt so protective of this lady, or why Myla was clearly feeling protective because the dog was walking as close to her as she could without knocking her over.
He was used to working with just Aldo, so he didn’t talk that much. Luckily it was a short walk and he made sure to be forever the gentleman, holding the door open to the small coffee shop. the barista glared at him as he walked in with Myla ”Sir.. no animals allowed.” Ben nodded his head slightly and pulled out his wallet, pulling out a card that was Myla’s service dog license. Normally he didn’t pull the I’m in the army card, but he was going to do it today. ”She’s a service dog.” he said simply, though there was a bit of authority in his voice. He pulled out his service card and showed it to the young lady. she looked alarmed at him being there, he assumed it was the fact that bomb was clearly labeled on both cards.
Ben gave her a nod suddenly, before looking at Gracelyn with a small smile. ”Order whatever you want.. I’m buying.” he said softly. ”I mean.. I don’t want to ruin the highlight of your day, so I should keep the good streak going.” he said with a smirk. He was being serious though. He was buying. He put his cards back in his wallet and pulled out his debt card. he was almost certain they would be getting good service, considering he was sure he scared the girl and people generally treated people in the military and who had dogs better than they would other people. After they ordered and got their drinks he found them a table for two. He sat down only after she sat down and after he had gotten the barista to get him the first aid kit.
Myla laid at their feet, though he could see that it was closer to Gracelyn than she was to him. He smirked softly as he took a long sip of his hot black coffee. ”You have stolen my dog’s affections.” he teased. He sat his cup down as he looked at her briefly before he opened the first aid kit. ”alright..let’s have a look at that wrist.” he said with a small smirk as he rummaged around in it.

GRACELYN PORTER | |
Gracelyn saw that Ben didn't seem to like the fact that this was the highlight of her day. Actually, it was the highlight of the last few months. Nothing good seemed to happen to her after the whole thing with Dale. "I'm sorry that I'm the highlight of your day." She shrugged. There wasn't really anything she could do about that, but she was confused, most people would be happy about being the highlight of someones day. She smiled though when he spoke, "Umm...this is absolutely the highlight of my day.." She was happy about that. At least something good happened with her coming to the park today. Even if it was just one person, she was glad it was this guy though. She may be a little biased though, he was handsome. Grace knew she shouldn't think like that though. Men were the last thing she really wanted to worry about. However, it was really hard not to think about Ben.
It was a short walk to the coffee shop and when they got there, Ben held the door open for her and she smiled and even blushed a little as she walked through the door. Immediately they were met with, "Sir...no animals allowed." It didn't seem to phase Ben however as he walked up to the barista and handed her a couple cards. "She is a service dog." By the way the girl looked at the cards, that wasn't all she was. Gracelyn knew little about these two yet but hopefully she would learn a little bit while sitting here having a coffee with them. So she was a service dog. Grace wondered what type. What did this guy do for a living? so many questions.
Ben turned to Grace, "Order whatever you want...I'm buying. I mean..I don't want to ruin the highlight of your day, so I should keep the good streak going." The smirk on his lips was just adorable and she couldn't help but smile and giggle a little, her cheeks flushing pink again. Grace stepped up to the counter and looked at the menu. It all looked so good, she wasn't sure what she wanted. Something hot for sure though. "Um...I'll have a caramel machiatto. Venti. And um... And a vanilla bean scone." she smiled to the girl, who gave her a look of, I think I have seen that girl before.
After getting her order, Gracelyn walked with Ben to a table. She sat down and then Ben did. Sitting there, Grace finally was able to really take in everything about Ben. He was truly a beautiful man. She would never tell him that as it sounds rediculous, but everything about him just seemed...perfect. In her eyes anyway. Her thoughts were then inturrupted as the Barista brought the first aide kit that he had asked for. Grace totally forgot about the pain in her wrist for just that moment.
Gracelyn saw the smirk again as Ben took a sip of his coffe. She looked down as saw Myla close at her feet. "You ahve stolen my dog's affections." She blushed again and giggled lightly. "Well, it was not my intention to do that, but I will gladly take her affection." she took her drink in the hand that was not in pain and took a drink, the warm liquid warming her throat as she swollowed. That was nice. "Alright..let's have a look at that wrist." Grace giggled again and started to take her glove off her hand. It was then when she realized just how bad it had become. Her wrist was bruising quite badly and it was swollen. She tried to move her fingers but it hurt to do so. At least she could move them however. That meant they weren't broken....right? Her eyes got big and she looked at Ben, "This doesn't look good." Her voice suddenly a little scared.

| Ben listened to her order with an amused look on his face. When it was his turn his shoulders shrugged. ”Just black coffee for me.. no sugar or creams.” His order was simple, but what did you expect from a man in the army? He paid and tipped the barista. After they sat and the first aid kit was delivered to them, he was all business, kind of. He smiled hearing her giggle. ”She likes you… I can tell… and.. well.. Myla isn’t exactly a regular service dog…. well.. technically she’s retired…” he said absentmindedly. He wasn’t sure what he should say, or what he shouldn’t say. ”Let’s just say.. she’s not used to being a pet.. and she is normally stand offish to new people… but.. she likes to be close to you.” he said, continuing. ”at the park, I was lucky I had a grip on her.. she was going after that guy that bumped into you.” he added. He knew it wasn’t just a bump, but it was the only word that came out that seemed to fit.
Luckily, he was suddenly distracted by the swelling of her wrist. He wasn’t expecting it to be that bad. He frowned slightly and poked at it softly, feeling to see if he could feel where it was hurt. he frowned a little more and hummed quietly. ”If only I were an army medic..” he mumbled quietly. He pulled out gauze and wraps. He knew that he should distract her. That’s what people did right? He thought for a moment, thinking about how to distract her. He had a feeling it wouldn’t work. He wasn’t that good at distractions. He wrapped her wrist carefully, but kept it snug enough to keep it stable. ”I think it might be broken…” He said softly. ”You can move your fingers, so that’s good.. but..I wrapped it for you, just in case…. but you should go to the doctor so they can make sure you’re good and if you did break something they can set you up with a cast.” he commented.
He felt bad, maybe if he had gotten there sooner, he could have caught her and she wouldn’t have hurt herself. He thought about going back to the park and finding the guy that knocked her over. He shook his head ever so slightly to get the violent thought out of his head. He looked up, hoping to keep his face emotionally clear. He wanted to be stable with his emotions, even though he was suddenly too worried about this woman than he knew he should be. ”You should be okay though…. but I’m not a medic.. the things I work with usually explode when you don’t fix them correctly.” he said with a half-smile.

GRACELYN PORTER | |
Gracelyn giggled quickly when she heard what Ben ordered. Such a simple man. That was never a bad thing, she just thought it was silly the way he looked amused when she ordered her coffee. He totally didn't know what he was missing. He paid the barista and then they made their way to a table. "She likes you...I can tell...and .. well..Myla isn't exactly a regular service dog...well.. technically she's retired.." Grace listening closely as he spoke about the dog that sat at her feet. She always loved dogs but she had never been around one that was so...protective of her. It was a nice feeling but then she wondered why she was being so protective. Did this dog know more then she thought? She knew dogs could sense certain things but never really saw that happen. "Let's just say..she's not used to being a pet..and she is normally stand offish to new people..but..she likes to be close to you." Grace listened as he spoke about the dog again. Wasn't used to being a pet? Stand offish to people? Man, she was defying all the odds today. But then, if Grace didn't know that she was a service dog, she would have just thought of her as a pet. "at the park, I was lucky I had a grip on her...she was going after that guy that bumped into you." She thought back to that moment. It probably was a lot her fault for not paying attention to where she was going, but she wasn't completely at fault, she knew that. However, things could have gone over a lot smoother if the guy would have just been a little bit more kind....or something.
But then, Grace like knowing that Ben's dog was protective fo her. Maybe she was being a little greedy when she thought that with Myla came Ben. She would be getting a protector and a friend or even a protecter in him as well. A small smile came to her lips as she thought about it. But it was quickly gone as she winced at the pain in her wrist. Being inside in the warmer temperatures made her wrist hurt more because now she could actually feel everything. "If only I were an army medic." Grace giggled, "I think your doing fine for not being one." She smiled a warm smile at him, however, it was clear she hurt, but was trying to be strong and not let him see it. When he spoke again, he brought up her worst fears. "I think it might be broken.." He spoke softly. "You can move your fingers, so that's good...but...I wrapped it for you, just in case...but you should go to the doctor so they can make sure you're good and if you did break something they can set you up with a cast."
That was something Grace really didn't want to hear. Ever since finding out she was pregnant, she really hated doctor's offices. She would do anything to stay out of them. However, it looked like she didn't have much of a choice when it came to going this time. She just didn't want to have to tell them she was pregnant before having to get an xray. Grace was just glad that Ben was here. She wasn't about to tell him that she was pregnant. that wasn't exactly something you told a guy you just met and were attracted to. Neither was saying, 'hey I am pregnant from the guy that took advantage of me while I was drunk.' Yeah, no.
It was clear that Grace's attitude changed from only moments ago but she tried to hide it, however not doing a very good job. "You should be okay though... but I'm not a medic...the things I work with usually explode when you don't fix them correctly." Grace managed a smile and a little chuckle. He was so sweet. "I'll do my best in not exploding, promise." She gave him a little smile. Now not only did she hurt mental but now physically too.

| Ben saw the look on her face and he suddenly felt the need to protect her take hold. He wanted to help her. ”I .. I can come with you.. if you want..” he offered. He gave her a small smile. ”We can bring Myla.. and she’ll sit with you.” he added with a small laugh. He didn’t know her story or why she was trying to be so strong, but he didn’t want her to think she had to act like that. He just wanted to help her. He wanted her not to be worried or afraid. He wanted to help her, he wanted to make sure she was safe.. and that terrified him somewhat.
He chuckled softly at her statement. ”Good.. but I think I’d rather a pretty blonde blow up on me than a real bomb.” he said with a small smirk. He was trying to make her feel better. Maybe he should be distracting her. ”Myla and I.. we’ve been together for a while.. she was a bomb sniffing dog..” he said looking down at the aging shepherd. ”I was partnered with her when she was eleven months… and we served four years overseas….three tours..” he said explaining. he wanted to get to know her, but he wasn’t sure how to ask her questions, so he just started explaining himself. ”When we were in Georgia…I was lucky enough they decided to retire her before I came here..” he said reaching down to pet the dog.
”Apparently, she’s retired from bomb sniffing to comfort pet.” he said softly. ”my other dog.. Aldo.. He’s a bomb sniffing dog as well.. but I just got him when I moved here…” his broad shoulders shrugged. ”We’ve bonded, but he’s not Myla, yet.. he will be.” he said matter-o-factly. He wasn’t sure what else to say or to tell. He didn’t want to tell her that he was specialized in bomb removal. He knew when people found out they automatically asked if he’d ever had a bomb go off. Then he always had to reply with a smart ass comment, how if that was true he wouldn’t be standing there having that conversation. |

GRACELYN PORTER | |
"I..I can come with you..if you want.." Grace looked at him, her eyes meeting his. Was he serious? Why would he want to do that with a complete stranger? But something inside her was screaming for her not to let this guy leave. It was like she needed him in a way. Everything in Ben's voice said he was serious and he didn't seem liek the kind of guy that would say something like that if he didn't mean it. "We can bring Myla..and she'll sit with you." Grace smiled. Why was this man so sweet? It had mainly just been Grace these past few weeks and she wasn't about to admit that she would actually really love his company. She hadn't exactly had the most luck with men but something about this one was different.
Ben seemed to think she was funny at her statement. She gave him a small smile. He was so easy to be around. In a way she hated it. For so long she was used to be strong and alone and just dealing with things. But Ben was ruining that. She wanted the comfort of someone there. She wanted to know she was cared for. "Myla and I ...we've been together for a while..she was a bomb sniffing dog.." She too looked down at the shephard that was sittign at their feet, smiling. "I was partnered with her when she was eleven months... and we served four years overseas...three tours..." Gracelyn sat there listening closely. Everything about this man and his dog interested her. She wanted to know everything about him. "When we were in Georgia..I was lucky enough they decided to retire her before I came here.." She watched him reach to pet the dog. "She deserves that retirement." Such well trained dogs going overseas just like soldiers was amazing. "So what about you? What are you doing here?"
Ben went on, "Apparently, she's retired from bomb sniffing to comfort pet." She giggled and looked down at Myla. "My other dog..Aldo..He's a bomb sniffing dog as well..but I just got him when I moved here. We've honded, but he's not Myla, yet...he will be." She grinned at his sureness. "How old is Aldo? Is he still a puppy?" She loved puppies and hoped she could get one soon. Minnie was talking about them getting a house and sharing it and getting a dog or two. She was seriously considering that offer as well but had yet to really talk to her about it.
Going back to the question about him going with her to the doctors, she smiled. "Oh I never answered you about the doctors....If you want you can come." She blushed slightly. It would be a first that was for sure. "You have a pretty crazy job. A lot more crazy then mine." She paused for a moment. "I'm...well...I'm a model." She blushed again. Gah, why was she blushing so much.

| Ben nodded his head in agreement with her, he knew Myla deserved retirement. He wasn’t sure about her question. Was she asking what he did? He didn’t know if he wanted to tell her that yet. He didn’t know how people really took his job. ”Umm I’m an Explosives Expert… Myla.. and Aldo are trained to detect explosives.” he said with a shrug, hoping she wouldn’t see it as a big deal. ”I was stationed at Fort Hamilton, in Brooklyn a few weeks ago…” he told her simply. ”I just go where they tell me too.” honestly he was hoping to stay down south. People aren’t as rude there as they were in New York, plus this cold weather was killing him. It got cold in Georgia, but not as cold as it got here. He wasn’t sure what else to tell her, there wasn’t much to her.
He smirked, seeing her grin. At least she was responding to him a little bit. He wasn’t sure what she thought as a puppy. He was only about a year old, but he didn’t act like a puppy anymore. ”He’s two years old… He’s a puppy I guess, with his age… but he doesn’t act like one, he’s very serious..” he said thinking of the young german shepherd. ”You can meet him one day if you want.” he suggested. He wasn’t sure what was wrong with him. Why was he going so far to comfort her. He want to show her Aldo. He wasn’t just doing it to just show off and to impress her. He could tell the way she asked, she was actually excited about the dogs and he thought she might like to see everything.
He smiled at her softly when she answered if she wanted him to go with her to the doctor. ”It’s not if I want to go, it’s if you want me to go with you… moral support and all that..” he said with a small shrug. He wanted her to be comfortable and he didn’t like the idea of anything upsetting her. Man, he was so screwed. He was a little surprised when she said she was a model, but that didn’t shock him. She was beautiful. He could see her being a model and he wondered if he had ever heard of her, or seen her in magazines or something. He wasn’t exactly up on his pop culture, but he did have a sister and his mother, they were into those sort of things he thought. He saw her blush and couldn’t help but smirk. ”I can see that… You’re very pretty.. I think it would shock me more if you weren’t in modeling..” he commenting, trying to bring that blush out even more. He could have a little fun right? It was all in good fun anyways. He wasn’t sure why a model would be sitting here with him anyways. |
