Friday evenings were only good for one thing in the eyes of mister Lincoln Harding and that was sitting in a bar, sipping on lemonade trying to pick up drunk women. Yes, that was a bit of a dick move but that basically described him perfectly - okay so maybe not perfectly, he did have some good qualities too, just none that really fit into this sort of setting. It was almost as if it was a Friday ritual, he would finish work, walk home (because his apartment was far too close to his work to warrant the catching of a bus or even the driving of a car to and from), have a quick shower to wash away the work and the ready himself for an evening of picking up drunk girls. What else was there to do on a Friday night? He had a few select bars that he frequented for this sort of thing that were within walking distance to his apartment - both so there was somewhere to go when (not if) he was successful in his endeavour and because it was a lot more convenient to not have to drive. Plus it seemed to be appealing to 'have a place nearby'. Today he had had to stay back in the office for an extra hour because someone had screwed something up and it was up to him to find out what and why and fix it because it was to do with the finances of the company. He wasn't pleased but he always made the effort to work hard and well in his career because it was important to him and something that he never wanted to affect in a bad way. He was actually mostly pleasant to those he worked with - if he had to be or felt that it might help him advance in his job or well, only if he felt that it was necessary. This delay in getting home only meant that he was going to get to the bar a little later than usual, but that also meant that the women were more than likely going to be drunker than if he had gotten there at the usual seven o'clock - yeah that was something he thought about on his short walk home. He hit the bar around nine and headed right for the bar to get his lemonade - because he didn't drink alcohol yet he took advantage of it's affects on others, jerk. During his journey from the door to the bar he scouted the place, looking at all the people he could, looking for someone that he could potentially pick up. There were a few but then he saw someone at the bar and his sights were set. He took a seat on the stool next to her and signalled that bartender - who gave him a smile and nod of recognition and made his way over to him. "The usual thanks." He spoke with a smile. "And get this fine lady another of whatever she's drinking." He indicated to the woman beside him with a small sidewards nod of his head.

vodka's the best medicine One thing you learn as a female law enforcement officer is that in New York you're subject to harassment. Especially for a pretty woman like Mischa. Of course she didn't just take it, she'd give more than an earful to those who needed it. Catcalls and whistling just wasn't uncommon though, even on-duty. Honestly she had even been harassed by other male officers before, though none of the ones she worked with typically. It was really frustrating, because she didn't have any tangible proof and so harassment was easily dismissed. When it came to other officers, she wouldn't take that sitting down, and would sometimes give a nice slap in the face. She also seemed to have to constantly prove herself. When she was covering someone, they'd always call extra backup, male backup. People just didn't expect much out of Mischa, and she hated it. Of course it just made her work that much harder, because she needed to prove herself. She got so sick of male officers bashing her. Really, one glance at Mischa and you wouldn't assume he career choice would be a law enforcement officer, she just didn't seem like 'that type of girl', as she had been told. Being a SWAT officer was a higher risk job that just regular policing, sure, but it was also more rewarding. Sometimes her career intimidated people, sometimes it intrigued them. One thing was certain though, Mischa was an absolute badass woman. But being a badass can take a lot out of you and be very stressful. So that was what Mischa was dealing with tonight. She had decided she needed to de-stress a /little/. And by a little she meant go out and maybe have a drink or two or a whole bottle of vodka. It wouldn't be pretty, but it was how Mischa dealt with her troubles and worries anymore. It wasn't a good habit, and it really wasn't good for her job, but nothing in the rules said she couldn't let loose every once in a while. She even decided to wear something a bit more formal than usual, a pretty simple red dress and heels (which she could hardly walk in without stumbling around like a baby deer). Normal women usually went out with friends when they did go drinking, but Mischa being the independent little bird she was, went alone. Plus it was mostly to drink away her problems, and it wasn't like she wanted her very limited pool of friends to see her like that. Hell, she didn't want anyone seeing her like that, but it wasn't like she had a bottle of vodka at home. Ok that was a lie. That wasn't the point though, she needed the social interaction. Mischa knew it was a horrid idea going out alone, but she didn't really care. Plus her intentions weren't to get completely plastered. She was going to have fun tonight, she was determined to. Perhaps she wasn't thinking straight, but life had been so hectic lately. Work was always stressful, especially the past few weeks. he hadn't gotten to see her own family in over 3 years, she didn't have a whole lot of friends, and well, romance just wasn't part of the picture at the moment. Who needed men anyway? Not Mischa. With that goddamn attitude it was no wonder she was single, but you just got fed up with men when you worked with a bunch who always acted like they were by far superior to you. So there Mischa was, sitting at the bar and having a nice martini. Simple and elegant. Pretty much the opposite of Mischa. She was ever-so immature and wasn't all that 'lady-like' either, whatever the hell that meant. She had arrived probably around one hour prior, but she was taking her time with the drinks so far. Every now and then she'd scan the bar and try to casually move away from any potential creeps and men who attempted flirting (or just flat-out grabbing), and just to sort of see who all was there. This wasn't the bar she usually went to, it was actually sorta out of her way, but she was looking for something new. She didn't want to become a so-called regular at a bar, it just wasn't something to be proud of in her opinion. She let her mind wander for a minute, before the sight of a man sitting down next to her grabbed her attention. Mischa had thought she was doing a pretty good job deterring the drunks and those who decided they could touch without permission, but it looked like she hadn't done a good enough job. Well, maybe this guy wasn't a weirdo, right? That probably wasn't the case but she wanted to believe so. It wasn't the first time a man had decided to occupy the seat next to her. His saying something about the usual made her assume he came here often, usual behavior for most of these people. Something that did surprise her though, was the fact that the guy ordered her another drink. He was talking about her, right? She casually looked over at the stool on the other side of her just to be certain. Mischa smiled slightly once she had confirmed it was her that he was talking about, actually a bit excited at the prospect of a free drink, where she could see it being made. Shaking off the thought she managed a small greeting, "Hello there. Do you come here often?" It wasn't her greatest or smoothest, but it would have to do. It wasn't like that mattered anyway, this guy was just a safe, free drink. It was kind of sad, but she felt content thinking of it that way. Just a chance for a free drink. That was what the sleazes that hung around the bars were good for, and Mischa didn't have a problem leading them on for just that purpose. At least her intentions weren't terrible, right? 1002 words. @lincoln. Hope this isn't too terrible! Also 1000 words baby!

Being classed as a regular in a place such as a bar was probably not a good thing and he was certain that he was referred to as such by the staff - when one could simply state that they wanted 'the usual' and the bartender knew exactly what to get was probably the best indication that one was classed as a regular. But really he didn't mind - though from time to time he did think about it and it bothered him that while he didn't actually drink the stuff someone out there thought that he was an alcoholic (there would surely be more than just one, but hey one was more than enough to bother someone on any matter). But then the moment would pass and he'd be back to not caring what these people thought of him. Caring wasn't something that he was all that good at - at least not when it came to others, god damn he cared a lot about himself, his career and his money, but that was about all he cared about. Other people didn't matter all that much to him, until they mattered a great deal. On his walk from the door to the bar he hadn't quite gotten the best look at the girl at the bar, but the small look that he had gotten had told him that she was attractive and that she was drinking - that last one simply came from the fact that she was there and he had seen the drink in front of her (normal people didn't come to bars alone and not drink alcohol). Once he had ordered the drinks he turned his head so that he could see her better. A small smirk pulled at his lips as he looked her over as discreetly as one could within the small distance between them, his small look before had not been misleading when it told him that she was an attractive woman. "Wow, that was smooth." He spoke with a small chuckle in his voice in response to her words. "But, I might." He spoke as the drinks were placed in front of them - he quickly turned to the bartender and handed over some cash, then turning back to the woman. "I haven't seen you around here before, first time?" Curiosity, small talk, whatever you wanted to call it, he was definitely someone that asked a lot of questions when the time called for it - maybe he wanted to know a little about this one before he really made any moves to 'pick her up'. He took a sip of his drink and then another. Sometimes he wondered what people would think about him sitting at a bar sipping on lemonade, but then he'd remember that he didn't care what they thought - so maybe he really cared what people though but didn't want to admit that to himself? No, that was most definitely not true, at least in his eyes it wasn't. "I'm Lincoln by the way." He almost offered her a hand to shake but held it back simply because she was a woman in a bar, why the hell would she want to shake a man's hand during an introduction - he had shaken a few hands at work that day and offering one's hand to shake was an automatic action to him when it came to introductions in his day to day life. But not when in a bar attempting to pick up women.

vodka's the best medicine Mischa took another sip of her drink, subtly looking over the man who decided to order her a drink. She didn't really feel the need to justify this, who wouldn't want to see just who was buying them a drink at a bar, especially an unfamiliar one. He wasn't bad looking, and dressed nicely, always a good sign in her opinion. Quite a snobbish opinion for that matter, but hey, she was a woman alone at a bar, so that basically entitled her the right to judge any and every person who approached her. That didn't mean her judgement was always fair or even correct, though. She had met many a wolf in sheep's clothing throughout the years, and didn't like to be too risky. Taking precautions with handling strangers was always her best bet. Still, being a cop she just had to trust her judgement, and hope it was better than any other person out there. Mischa had to be able to make quick decisions, to snappily judge someone and their character within a matter of minutes, even seconds. One fact that did make her a little uneasy about tonight though, was the fact that she didn't have her gun on her. Typically she'd have a concealed-carry on her person at almost all times (for job's sake), but that just didn't seem practical with her rather form-fitting wardrobe choice tonight. The pistol usually gave her a sense of comfort and security though, that if things did go horribly wrong, she'd have a backup. Mischa just hoped that nothing horribly wrong ever would go wrong though, that she'd never actually have to use her gun off-duty. Sometimes shooting people came with her job, and it wasn't easy. Of course it was hardly ever a fatal shot that needed to be made, just something to stop the person or well, more likely criminal, from escaping. The thing was, she dealt and negotiated with criminals all the time. They weren't exactly criminals until convicted, of course, but she just referred to them all in that matter, as it was likely they were. She tipped her glass once more before turning her attention back to the man. "Yes, indeed it is." Mischa nodded in response to his question, taking another drink while still keeping her focus on the guy. She had to admit she was very wary of strangers, but who isn't? Knowing the kind of people she dealt with on a daily basis, she had every right to be cautious. Sometimes it was the most charming ones who were the most dangerous. She actually felt a bit better once the guy, Lincoln, introduced himself, for whatever reason. Perhaps just having that much more of an idea of who he was made her less nervous? Still, he could easily be lying. What reason would he have to do so though? Then again, there were plenty she could think of. "Mischa, nice to meet you." Mischa offered up a smile along with her own introduction, trying to come across as friendly. Bettering her chances of free drinks, right? She pondered the thought for a moment, before going about her own attempts to spark up some conversation. "So, are you from around here?" 536 words. @lincoln. Bleh. This is not good. Sorry.

He was used to some - or most - woman that he approached and bought drinks for in bars being somewhat wary. Really he couldn't blame them, there really were some assholes out there who thought that they were entitled to whatever the hell they wanted when it came to woman. He wasn't like that, even if from time to time he came across that way, he hated men like that simply because they made him look bad. That's not to say that he won't say some nasty things to a woman who turns him down, because he will and most definitely has in the past and most definitely will in the future. Sometimes he thought about what he was doing though and occasionally considered trying to find a woman to settle down with but he always remembered that that meant spending a lot of time with one person and he didn't want to do that. And so he continued hitting bars and doing his best to pick up drunk women. A small smirk came to his lips when she answered his question. He liked being told that he was right, it was such a satisfying feeling even when it was with something as simple as knowing that someone hadn't been in a particular bar before. "Well you have a good taste in bars, this one is really good." He took a sip from his drink while glancing around a little, looking at the people around them - he recognised a few of them, regulars like him. Well not regular like him because the ones that he saw were sitting at the bar drinking alone and didn't look very happy. Bars were such depressing places for some people. At the sound of her name he rose and eyebrow, he hadn't heard that name before. "Nice name, can't say I've heard it before. Where's it from?" He was a curious being and he did like knowing things, he also wanted to appear interested in things that were to do with this woman, now known as Mischa. "I am, yes. Long Island to be exact." Not anymore though, he had moved into the city for college and hadn't left - all the jobs that he wanted were there. "I haven't been out there for a while though." He really hadn't. He did make and effort to see him mother from time to time because he cared about her - it was only fair since she did everything she could to ensure that he was cared for and given all the opportunities that he was. If it wasn't for her there was little chance that he would be where he was today. He was probably due for a trip, that was something that he'd have to think about later.
