those youngest years - to understand where vanessa wayne came from you first must know, well where she came from. her parents. four years before she was born her father bought a run down casino in vegas, it was in bad condition but within the year he had it up and running. he was good at this game, he had the personality for it and he quickly gained regular patrons who he got to know and treat as friends. They loved him and he loved them - or well he loved the cash that they were handing over to him. He spent the cash unwisely, on booze, strip clubs and hookers. There was one particular stripper that he became rather fond of - okay so he was more fond of the good times that she gave him after her shift was up than the woman herself, really he could barely stand being around her for more than a few hours. Roughly four months before Vanessa was born her father came to the realisation that he was loosing money, his casino was beginning to fail, it turned out that when one spent the majority of their money on booze, strip clubs and hookers as well as having some large upkeep costs of their casino they started to go broke. he sold his beloved casino and used the money to buy a penthouse apartment overlooking the strip and everything he once had. it wasn't long after that when he got a knock on the door and a baby handed to him. the stripper that he had been rather fond of had fallen pregnant and the baby was his - simply because she hadn't slept with anyone else in the period nine months beforehand. he was shocked but he took the baby in, he may have made some poor choices in his life but he wasn't going to let his own child be without a parent - the mother didn't want her, a child just was not going to do her any good. he cared for vanessa, he gave her everything she needed and in turn she was a healthy, happy baby. but he had fallen into a depression since he had sold the casino, he was drinking a lot heavier than he ever had before. his brother worried for him - in truth he was more worried about vanessa than his brother, they had had a major falling out a few years before after her father had bought the casino. during vanessa's second year her father jumped to his death leaving her fatherless for the rest of her life. her uncle took her in and vowed to raise her as if she was his own - yet he always made sure she knew that he was her uncle and his children were her cousins and also that they all cared about her greatly. she was relocated to new york city once they took her in and has resided there ever since.
growing up - life was fairly easy for vanessa as she grew up, she always had what she needed - but also the discipline that stopped her from always getting what she wanted as a child. she was a part of a loving family that grew closer as they grew older. she had two older cousins and one younger, over her childhood they were her best friends. she was never a lonely child but she was one that did better on her own at school and other such things. she was smart too, good grades were always at the top of her homework sheets in the red pen the teachers always use. her uncle was always proud of her, both of her good grades and good behaviour. she never got into fights - unless it was with another peer over one of the window seats on the bus to and from school. though it was rare that she won anything, she has always been a bit of a push over - though these days she is definitely less of one. even though she was the type to keep to herself and did well on her own she did have that one best friend that wasn't a cousin during her childhood - when she met sammi they jsut clicked and when vanessa wasn't spending her time alone or with family she could often be found by sammi's side. nothing really bad happened to her as she grew up, she was a lucky girl and had everything she ever needed.
college - it was during high school that she had decided what she wanted to do with her life. she wasn't the be a journalist. in her second year of high school she joined the school's newspaper staff (they called themselves staff because it sounded more professional) and was writing stories about the school - and even some things around the city. she was accepted into a university in new york city and has been partaking in a journalism degree since. she works hard on her college work - as she does with most things in her life - and sometimes it takes up most of her time which of course put pressure on any friendships she has (which is a lot since high school - she became a lot more social in her teen years). but she'll always do her best to make time for friends because they are super important to her and she doesn't want to throw any of them away.
now - she is currently in her third year of her degree, working super hard on that. she has even made time for romance, which is something she never really made time for before - but that doesn't mean that she hasn't had any experience because high school gave her some of that (the perks of becoming social?).
