"Welcome, mister Haywood I presume?"
His gaze was locked on a loose thread in the flooring - he made a mental note to mention it to someone before he left - when he heard his name. Or well, some of his name. At the sound his head whipped up and his gaze fell onto a middle aged woman dressed in a pants suit with a sensible short hair cut and minimal makeup - for him that was slightly worrying, that usually meant that they weren't all that fond of the kidding around Carter liked to do. With a small smile he stood up. "Yes ma'am, Carter Haywood." His accent coating his words letting everyone in the room know that he was indeed a Brit.
"Good. This way please."
He followed her in silence, it seemed that she wasn't the type for small talk and wanted to get this interview over and done with. He followed her down a hall that seemed to go on forever, they made one left turn and then another to the right into an average sized office. The room was fairly bare, there was one bookcase - a small one which was only half full, if that - two filing cabinets and a desk - which was very organised and had a photo frame on it, which Carter assumed held a picture of the woman's family since he couldn't actually see what it held as it wasn't facing him. He took in every detail of the room, though he didn't find any of it important so he quickly let all the details go and focused his attention on the woman as he sat in the seat he assumed was for him (or at least the people she had in there to interview). "So, let's get this thing done with."
"Yes, lets." She picked up a stack of papers that had been on the desk to her right and looked through them. With a sigh she set them back down and turned her gaze to him. "Tell me about yourself, anything and everything you want."
For a moment he was silent, unsure what to tell her - other than the basic crap like name, age and job. It bothered him ever so slightly that she didn't give him details on what she wanted to know - he could tell her all kinds of things about him and she wouldn't care, it would be nice to know just what she wanted to know herself. "Well you already know my name - my middle name is Alec though, not sure if you know that or not." He ran a hand through his hair before continuing. "I am a pilot with the Royal Airforce back in England - I assume those files there tell you that though." He motioned to the papers that she had looked through moments before. "I'm on holiday at the moment, I'm visiting my sister - she moved here three years ago. I met my niece for the first time yesterday, that was pretty great and probably something you don't care about.," He let out a small sigh before going on. "I'm trained in both weapons and hand to hand combat so I can fuck up anyone who wrongs me." While that was very much indeed true it was rare that he used those skills - he also didn't go arounf boasting about them either even if right now it didn't seem that way. "Honestly, I don't know what else you want to know." He shrugged and let himself slump down in the chair, his gaze focusing on her still.
For a few moments she appeared to be annoyed by how little Carter had told her - but then she shook her head and spoke. "No, that's fine." A strand of her hair had become loose from her ponytail and she tucked it behind her ear before going on. "Tell me about your family. How close are you guys? Obviously you're close to your sister, what about the others?"
For a moment his gaze fell to his lap and his trademark cheery expression vanished - but after a moment it returned and he forced his gaze back to the woman. "I am very close to my sister, we're twins so we have that special bond." He let out a slight chuckle that seemed like it was meant to be more, but just wasn't. "Really we're just super close and don't have any kind of weird bond that a lot of twins claim to have. But we do care about one another a lot, does that count as weird?" He ran a hand through his hair while his gaze suddenly wandered the room - he wasn't sure what to say about the rest of his family. "Uh - six years ago my mother died from pancreatic cancer." He paused for a moment, letting his finger's fidget with one another in a half hearted attempt to distract his mind. "Last year dad married some twenty three year old whore." His tone changed rather dramatically when he mentioned his father's new wife - there was a lot of tension there. "Sorry." He spoke, shaking his head slightly while rubbing his temple with his forefinger. "They have a daughter now - my youngest sister almost thirty years younger than me. It's a weird feeling." He paused for a moment. "We aren't close at all these days. There was a falling out the week before they were married. I'm not going into details though." it was a simple happening really - he hadn't approved of what his father was doing and it broke whatever father-son connection that still remained at that point, which had been little.
"Okay." It was clear that she was feeling just a bit uncomfortable. "Moving on then. You said you were on holiday, do you know anyone other than you're sister in New York?"
With a small grin he spoke. "Well, now I know my niece as well." He let out a small chuckle. "Other than her, no-one. There was some jerk that I sort of met yesterday though. I don't really want to know him. He had a bit of a run in with a guy who though he was more entitled that everyone else in the store. Carter had thought that this jerk was most definitely not more entitled than anyone else in the damn store and the two of them got into an argument and ended up being kicked out of the store. Carter had to go buy his chocolate bar elsewhere. "I plan to know more people though - I'm here for a while so I might be able to know everyone. He shrugged before letting out a small cough. "Do you have any water or something I can wet my throat with?"
Shaking her head, she spoke. "No. We're almost done here, I'm sure it can wait."
He screwed his face up slightly. "Well aren't you hospitable." He readjusted his sitting position so that he was now sitting much more upright - somewhat preparing himself for the run for the door the moment the interview was over.
She all but glared at him. "Yes, aren't I just." She picked up the papers once more and flicked through them again. "I think we'll leave it there. It was a pleasure mister Haywood." Her eyes indicated otherwise. "I hope you have a great day."
He was on his feet in an instant. "Thank you for your time." He spoke with a smile and he was out of the room and walking back out the way he came within seconds.
