So Mr. Robinson, we have read your resume and we are suitably impressed. Care to tell us a little bit about yourself?
Well I’ve never given up an opportunity to talk about myself (laughs). Lets see. Where to begin. I grew up in the Bronx. The oldest of three boys in a typical British American family. My father, you wouldn’t be much of a news agency if you aren’t familiar with him. James ‘Perry’ Robinson. Garbage tycoon and philanthropist. People seem to know of my mom a lot less though she’s one of the leading ER specialists at North Central Hospital and has saved more lives than I can count. I grew up in the Bronx. A mostly Hispanic neighborhood. You could say that it was tough. Especially for a kid attending a private grade school and walking a twenty five minute walk from the bus station to his house at six o clock PM everyday. Needless to say I was picked on a lot. Spent a lot of time running and a lot more getting the crud kicked out of me. Back then it was the most terrifying experience in my life but now I wouldn’t exchange it for the world. Taught me a lot. How to avoid trouble and how to sock my way out of it when it couldn’t be avoided, mostly. High school was much better. By then all my tormentors had become friends and it had only taken a couple of bloody noses and black eyes. I played basketball and boxing which kept me firmly on the high spectrum of the popularity line, though to be perfectly honest I never did care too much about such rubbish. I was always happiest under the sheets with a warm mug of Nesquik and a copy of the Hobbit.”
It says here that you attended Cornell.
Four years on the dean’s list. My first choice was NYU but my mother wanted me out of the big apple for a bit but not too far that she couldn’t keep tabs. I majored in journalism. I knew from an early age that my career lay in ferreting secrets. I always had an unquenchable curiosity even as a kid. No matter how much tanning my old mother put on my backside she couldn’t quite get it out. I would say that college was one of the greatest times in my life. I partied a lot, drank even more, and kept my grades even higher. I won a few gold medals in wrestling, basketball, and track. I met a lot of people and I’m proud to still call most of them friends. I’m grateful for the time that I spent there getting educated. I know a lot of people don’t get the opportunity. For that I’m grateful.
if you had to describe yourself in a word. What would that word be?
Determine. Though others have described it as stubborn. Indeed that’s being polite; most say I’m as stubborn as a mule. Others call me pigheadedly stupid. I tell them go to hell. I prefer to think of it as determine. When I put my mind to a task I don’t give up no matter what. I always see it through to the end and I always finish what I start. Another would be passionate. No matter what I do I put my mind and my soul and my heart, my entire being into. I was taught that mediocrity was one of the worst things that any person could ever inflict upon themselves and it was a lesson which I took to heart. Rest assured that anything associated with my name is and will always be one hundred percent excellence.
I see that you are engaged...
To the most wonderful woman in the world. I call her my mad Russian (laughs). It always gets to her. Met her at Hotel Madison about year ago next week Tuesday. Took her for coffee and then the next you know she’s wearing my ring. I have never been much of a firm believer in faith but meeting her at that motel that day almost feel rights. Like it was supposed to happen. I’m not sure about a lot in my life but I am sure that I love her with all my heart and that I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her. The perfect woman.
We pride ourselves on running one of the biggest and most accurate newspapers within the country. As you could imagine doing as such naturally includes us keeping a certain image, a certain reputation if you will. Your credentials are impeccable, and your qualifications are exactly what we are looking for. But there are certain aspects that this board finds troubling. Namely this matter of your father. Alleged mobster Perry ‘the Peg’ Robinson, currently on trial for murder one and racketeering. Can you say in all honesty that you are completely free of any mob affiliations?
(Shrugs)
To the best of my knowledge my father has never been convicted of any crime. Neither have I. Even in the event of him ever being found guilty of any wrongdoing it has nothing to do with me. I’ve been estranged from my family for years actually. This in mind I must say that yes I deny any and all affiliation to any mob or gang.
Thank you Mr. Robinson. That will be all. Expect to hear back from us before morning in regards to your application.
Thank you as well.
