Please state who you are and where you're from for us.
Hi, well it's been a while since I've done one of these, so pardon me if I say something I shouldn't. My name is Damon, full name...Damon Kingsley Sonada. I grew up in Athens, Greece. So yeah, excuse the accent, that's what you're hearing. I'm twenty seven. If you've never heard of me, well lucky you. Actually not really. I'm pretty big over in the European countries. Trying to make it in America I guess. It's been a dream but yeah, I'm sure you've figured that out.
Damon Kingsley? How did you end up with that as a name?
Well, really I'm just as dumbfounded as you are. Honestly, I have no idea where either of them came from. I tried to ask my parents about it, but it just seems like they threw it together last minute. Actually from what I remember my dad had someone in his family with a form of Damon as a first name. But it was old greek type. Kingsley my parents heard somewhere in England when they went there before I existed. So mystery solved!
So you grew up in Athens, Greece? How was that for a childhood?
Well, honestly...it was awesome. I mean, you grow up with ancient ruins in your hometown. I mean who can really say that most of the start of human civilization was right there near your house? I can, so can most of my friends. I'm guessing you want more about my childhood. Well, I grew up in a family that consisted of my parents and my brother. If you could call my childhood normal, I would. We weren't really hurting for money, and we weren't like super rich. My parents just tended to push us into activities. Sports, music, that kind of thing. Obviously I kind of excelled in the music part of that. Not that I'm like the best artist in the whole world or anything, but sometimes I get full of myself and think that I can be.
I met my best friend at a young age, and he's like a brother to me. My parents pretty much adopted him as another kid, because we were always together. It's still actually kind of like that now, so it's pretty funny how life works out. Oh yeah, my best friend is Zeus Marinos, you might have heard of him. He's getting to be a big deal. We've been playing music together since the gods know when. I've been there for him, and he's always been there for me. I can honestly say, with a straight face that I love that guy. Not in that kind of way, but like brotherly love.
Back to childhood I guess. In school, I was mid ranged, I never really put my heart and soul into school work. I always was thinking of better things to do with my time. Can I say that it paid off, sure. Most people that I went to school with would probably say that they remember my pranks. I was a hellion, those poor people that had to deal with me. I never really did learn where to draw the line. So if you've heard that I was trouble, I kind of was.
Can you further explain your relationship with Zeus? I mean he's kind of a big deal in your life it seems?
I mean, what's left really to explain. We've all had our ups and downs. I was friends with him before everything. Before all the fame, and before anyone knew our names. We were like brothers, I mean we still really are. I helped him out with hard situations that he had to deal with in his life. Lennon did too, whenever he couldn't tell her something, I was always the one he'd be able to tell. Again he's my brother, but obviously not biologically, might as well be though. I don't like to talk about what really has happened in the past, so I can't really go there. We try to keep each other grounded, and humble. Sure it doesn't always work, but we work towards it.
Okay, so you guys are pretty much brothers? How would he explain you to anyone you guys meet?
*laughs* Well, you see that's kind of funny actually. Anyone else would probably be like oh well he's nice when I met him. Zeus knew me from day one, so he's truthful. He'd explain first and foremost that I like to joke around. I've played tons of pranks on him and his ex-fiance. We toured around Europe together, so we were always together. We would always try to one up each other. Although, he'd probably throw some nice words in there. I'd call myself immature really, I'm in my late twenties, but I still act like a teenager. When it comes to business matters though, I'm your man. I was the one who would set up acts for Zeus, kind of like a manager.
Growing up I was that kid that could talk to anyone. If he didn't want to do it, I would. So imagine middle and high school with me. I tend to talk a lot as you can see. Otherwise there's not that much to me. Overall, I'd say he'd probably call me the oldest fifteen year old who isn't fifteen, maybe that I get along with anyone maybe?
So how did you make the jump over to America?
Well, I wanted to see how far music could reach. So you know, America was the next big adventure in my book. You Americans are just as crazy as I am, so you know I figured that it would work out well. Zeus came over first and is doing well, so I figured I would follow after. Plus being far from your friends sucks.
So, you say you're a prankster, what's the biggest prank you pulled while touring?
Well, instantly there's some small ones that were pretty funny. You have to think, most of these happened after long days of shows and then after parties we would have on the bus. So we're all in confined spaces, and it almost always ended up in huge messes. I guess I should apologize to the people who had to clean it up. At one point, Zeus and Lennon were sleeping off the alcohol. I tended to stay up later, just to do dumb stuff. Zeus had just gotten me with some small prank, but I needed to step it up. Lennon crashed first, and Zeus had joked around about putting her hand in a cup of warm water. Then he went in and went to sleep before he could. So I decided that I was going to take it to the next level.
I went into their set up, and kind of placed cups filled with warm water around them. Like on the bed, their little side tables. These cups were everywhere. Like on the floor, blanket. I think I even ended up putting one of the cups one of them. I can't remember who. Honestly when I woke up I forgot I had done it. Screaming woke me up, maybe like two hours later. Lenny had gotten up to go get a drink, and then you heard calamity. They had to sleep in the bunks for like two days after that.
