personality --
Valentine is an interesting girl, she a farm girl who likes to get dirty and isn’t afraid of much, like other girls, except spiders. She doesn’t do spiders, if you can save her from a spider you will be her hero. She is a self-confident young lady who is friendly to everyone, until you give her a reason not to be friendly. She likes girly clothes; skirts, dresses, and all that. She likes to get fun and creative with her makeup and looks. Gestures, especially sweet ones, go a long way with her. And it surprised her every time when something unexpected, sweet, or adorable happens in a gesture kind of way. She likes to get out and move around; running, jumping, messing around, playing with her pets, or yoga (when she’s stressed or needs to relax). She doesn’t like when things are too quiet, nothing ever good happens when things are too quiet. She doesn’t like the feeling of guilt, the eating away at her stomach, it is the worst feeling. She is a little terrified of her mother’s boyfriend “Zane”, he is a creep and he doesn’t really show it but he has and he’s tried a few things, of course no one believes it and she’s worried that he will take it too far one of these days. If Ted is around, she will do everything possible to avoid wherever he is. She is pretty creative and likes to be able to let that creativity flow. If you can say the right words to her, then she is putty, but only the right words (for the situation) and they have to be true or at least she has to believe them, if she does, then well.. you could probably get her to do anything. Since she is now in New York City instead of Tennessee, she wants to be able to say she tried something new and exciting, but has no idea.. she'll start with not getting mugged.
parents -- Lucas Kettenring, forty, ranch owner|horse trainer (racing|western|english disciplines) Deborah Olivier (formerly Kettenring - recently divorced)
sibling(s) -- Lucas Kettenring (junior), twenty, college student - June Kettenring, fourteen, high school freshman - Vivian Kettenring, ten, student - Damian Kettenring, six, kindergarten
pets -- Roscoe Scottish Terrier, Taz German Shepherd, Shasta Siamese, Holly Siamese
history -- Valentine was the second of the Kettenring children born, second to her brother Lucas Kettenring Jr. who was three years old at the time of her birth. Her parents, Lucas Kettenring, a cattle rancher and horse trainer, thought she was the most perfect baby he’d ever seen and Deborah Kettenring, who stayed home with the kids, wasn’t exactly thrilled about a second child so close together, but they dealt with it. Valentine was a happy baby, not as fussy as her older brother was, but she liked to be held (almost constantly), making Deborah constantly frustrated with the infant. Lucas and Lucas Jr, had no problem holding and cuddling with the infant; father, son, and Val often took naps together in the afternoon after morning and afternoon chores. They did this constantly, almost every day, if it wasn’t the trio it was brother and sister. By the time she was three, dad had her on her first pony by herself or with Lucas Jr. The family was happy, even mom came around once Val started to sleep through the night. When she was three, they were expecting an unexpected surprise and nine months later little June was born. Even though the unexpected brunt of being the middle child was unwelcomed from little Val, she was only three after all, somehow little Val learned from her now 6 year old brother. She tried her best with being an older sister, but was often jealous of the new baby (like any 3 year old would be). But, over the few short years before baby Vivian came along, she learned to love her younger siblings. By the time Vivian came along, she was 8 years old. Of course by then she was much closer to her older brother Lucas, who was now eleven and her protector, June was four and Val learned the fun of teaching her new things (things her mother frowned upon), and she could appreciate Vivian even if she cried all night for months. Not much happened after that, dad focused on the ranch and his children and wife. Lucas Jr. who was eleven helped more with the ranch and Val started to help, though she wasn’t exactly the best, but she helped work the horses who were calm enough for her. It was unexpected in less than ten years this happy family would be torn apart. Through elementary school Valentine was a shy, sweet girl, who had a few friends, the teachers thought she was charming and were just glad she wasn’t a trouble maker like her older brother. She wasn’t the smartest, but she wasn’t stupid either, mostly B student. By age eleven, Damian came along, a tiny baby, who quickly become Val’s favorite. She loved to cuddle the infant and would take care of him after school and would do everything with him. She worked more with her father too, helping in the training of the horses and working with the cattle. At this point Lucas Jr., started to become more interested in impressing girls with his horsemanship and pulling away from his little sister. Life seemed good for the next few years, at sixteen Val was given a new horse for her birthday and a shiny new truck. This is when she started to notice things going wrong, In reality her parents had been pulling apart before Damian was born. Not even a year later her parents were divorced and her mom moved them to New York City to be with some guy Zane. They have just moved here, right after her seventeenth birthday. She hates and resents her mother, she misses her father and brother. She tries to stick close to Damian and feels very protective of June and Vivian, never letting them be alone with creepy Zane. She’s told her father and brother about this, Lucas Jr. is planning to move to New York City to be with his sisters and little brother, not trusting Zane because of what he’s heard. Lucas (dad) is trying his hardest to get custody of his children, not wanting anything or anyone to harm them and is planning to move his business to New York to be closer.
