| Dashiell glanced to his watch for the hundredth for the day. his father had sent him to do a few errands. he had just gotten done with a long day of classes and he was fed up with his father. the building his father owned, was not exactly a skyscraper, but it was twenty stories. his father’s office on the top floor. there were dozens of lawyers, and interns, and secretaries. he had gone to each floor about five different times. he was so exhausted of all the crap. he had his briefcase with him; his sweater was on because his father was a cheap ass who wouldn’t turn the heat all the way up. he knew people were glaring, it was freezing and they all knew he was the son of mr. scrooge who refused to put more coal in the furnace. a flash of a smirk went to his lips and before anyone could notice, it was gone.
he pulled three manila folders that were filled almost to the brim and sealed. he needed to get these sent out, and he hoped the mail had yet to be picked up. he dropped them in the mail room before he went on his next errand; he needed to give a list to one of the secretaries of people to call. he waited in the elevator as he went from floor to floor, then he reached the one he needed. he stepped off the elevator and walked confidently towards his definition. people walking by looked down. he should know, he did look pissed almost all of the time. his strong jaw set in a tense line, his eyes set in what seemed like a permanent glare.
he reached the desk and waited quietly, as there were phones ringing and people talking. but once it was his turn, he stepped up in front of the desk. his eyes fell on the pretty woman that sat behind it. his eyes softened slightly, his jaw seemed to flex, and a flick of a smile went quickly to and from his lips. ”I need these clients called and rescheduled.” he said simply as he laid the paper onto the desk, his light eyes meeting hers. ”any time is just fine..” he added.

i could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love is no one there to dry your tears when the evening shadows and the stars appear
Bethany knew she was lucky to have landed this job. She may not at first thought she was cut out for being a secretary but over the last few months, she has gotten rather good at her job. She didn't really mind the job, answering phones, taking messages, filing and all the other little things needed to do in an office setting. It wasn't a hard job really at all. The part she was bothered about was the people who worked in the office. Coming from being just her and her mother, they didn't come from money. Hell, they didn't have money to spend on things other then bills and food. Bethany was proud of where she came from though. Her mother was strong and independent and didn't need a man to help her along the way. That was how Bethany wanted to be. But oh how the world likes to put a spin on everything.
Her mother was all she could really think about. She was dealing with being told she had breast cancer. It was agressive and there wasn't much to do but start chemo and hope for the best. It was the worst news that Bethany could have ever been told. She always saw her mother as being strong and could overcome everything. However, now, her mother was weak and wilting. It pained Bethany so much. But she vowed that she would do everythign in her power to help her mother through this.
She tried to keep her mind on the task at hand. The office she worked for was always busy and there was always something she needed to do. There was constantly someone coming up to give her something else to do. With a sigh, she began to work on her next task, which was making copies. There was a large stack of folders sitting next to her. The phone rang and she rolled her eyes slightly. Would it ever slow down? Probably not. She answered the phone, "You have reached the office of Rhys and Rhys, how many I help you?" Her voice was even as she said her first line of answering the phone. She listened to the man on the other end. He was looking for representation for a divorce. Apparently things had gotten nasty with his wife and he needed legal representation. "Of course we can help you Mr. Mathews. Let me transfer you to someone who can assist you further," there was a pause, "Uh huh. Of course, your welcome." Bethany's lips held a small smile for only a moment. It was people like this guy who she liked. Obviously she was sorry about his situation but kind and respectful people were always her favorite to help.
Setting the phone back on the hook, she began her work again. She was in her own little world when she heard someone step up to the desk. "One moment please." She finished what she was working on and looked up. Her eyes fell upon who could only be the son of the man she worked for. "Oh, I am so sorry Mr. Rhys. How can I help you?" It wasn't often she dealt face to face with one of the Rhys but she was told they were always a serious bunch who looked like they hated everyone. "I need these clients called and rescheduled." There was a pause as he lay the paper on the desk, their eyes meeting. "Anytime is just fine..." She gave him a small smile as she did with everyone. "Yes, of cours sir. I'll get on it right away." She reached up to take the folders.

| ”take your time..” dash wasn’t upset or angry that she told him to wait. he knew that one day this would be his place, not his father’s and he was okay that people worked. he thought it was kind of great that she wasn’t going to get distracted just because someone walked up to her. she seemed to have her mind focused on her work. he wished it was a little more enjoyable here. even he felt miserable. he looked up to meet her eyes when he heard her voice suddenly change. ”Dashiell….Dash… please.. Mr. Rhys is my father. he said simply. his voice was deep and smooth. he saw the small smile and it almost shocked him. people didn’t smile often here, especially not at him. it was something that came with the last name he supposed. because of his father, he knew that people were afraid of him.
a very slight and brief smile went to his lips and quickly disappeared. ”seriously, it’s not that urgent. all those appointments aren’t even for three weeks…” his broad shoulders quickly shrugged. he was a little shocked, when he felt a hand clasp on his shoulder. his appearance quickly changed, his jaw tightened, his eyes darkened, and his whole demeanor tightened up. ”Dashiell, that’s not how you run a law firm…” the man’s voice was deeper than Dash’s but it was clear they were father and son. he had that strong jaw line and the blue eyes. that serious look, he was dressed to the nines, his wore clothes easily worth more than what this girl made in two months.
his dark eyes fell to her briefly. ”don’t let a pretty face distract you son, they can sense when you’re weak willed… give her the chance and she’ll take you for everything you have.” he said coolly. dash was still in shock but he shifted his body slightly, he didn’t even realize that it was between this secretary and his father. he stood up a little more, his voice suddenly harsh. ”you’d know all about that wouldn’t you? you’ve had numerous women on your arms in the last few years haven’t you father?” he questioned coolly. he wished that was the end of it. but of course he started it, he should have just let him go, by the look if it, he was leaving for something, maybe leaving good for the day and then he could go turn the heat up. but, that wasn’t the end of it. ”perhaps, but those women were made of a little substance, she’s just a secretary…. fun for a little lunch break and stress relief, but other than that no substance.” he countered. after the twins came along, he did little to hide his affairs from the family. especially with their mother, who wouldn’t leave because she didn’t have the type of skills to live unmarried. dash glared at him, somehow his blue eyes got darker, his hand gripped the side of the desk, his knuckles turning white. he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. his father was satisfied with reaction out of his son and the secretary so he walked away.
dash shook his head, letting out a breath that he didn’t realize he had been holding. he almost forgot the pretty red head was there and he turned to look at her, worried suddenly about what his father had said and how it affected her.

i could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love is no one there to dry your tears when the evening shadows and the stars appear
"Take your time.." He didn't act as if this was a rush, making Bethany very relieved. She already had so many other things that others wanted done. She gave him a smile and nodded. "Yes sir." She reached up to grab the folders when he spoke again. "Dashiell...Dash, please. Mr. Rhys is my father." Bethany gave him a nod. So she was right, this was her boss's son. He was very handsome but he had the same look his father had but was not as harsh or mean, she liked that about him. She finally tore her eyes away from him. He was very easy on the eyes and she wanted to keep looking but she knew she had to get back to work. She had a job to do.
She looked up again to get one last look before she put herself back to work. She caught a glimpse of a smile on his lips before it disapeared. That was a nice change. "Seriousely, it's not that urgen. All those appaointments aren't even for three weeks." Bethany was about to say something when she jumped in her seat a bit as she too was a little shocked by the sudden precense of a man, his father. While she watched Dash, as he wanted to be called, she noticed his whole appearance changed. She saw him tense and even his eyes changed. Dashiell, th'as not how you run a law firm..." Bethany flinched at the older man's voice. Something about him sent chills down her spine. She did not like Mr. Rhys. He was just so....cold, to put it simply.
Bethany then froze when the older man turned to her. He was obviously talking about her but was speaking to his son. "Don't let a pretty face distract you son, they can sense when you're week willed...give her the change and she'll take you for everything you have." His voice was so cold towards her and his words cut into her like a dull knife, tearing at every piece of her. How did she become part of this conversation? Why would he be putting her into such a cliche group? Bethany knew she would never do that to anyone, let alone someone who was rich. Her deep blue eyes went from Dash to his father and then back to Dash, not even sure what to do. "You'd know all about that wouldn't you? You've had nunerous women on your arms in the last few years haven't you father?"
She couldn't believe what was going on. Not even ten minutes ago she was just minding her own business doing her job, when Dash walked into her life, if you could even call it that. Now she was listening to his father speak ill upon her and everyone woman who wasn't of his 'calliber'. This was why she couldn't stand people like him. "Perhaps, but those women were made of a little substance, she's just a secretary...fun for a little lunch break and stress relief, but other than that no substance." What the hell? It took all of her will power to keep from her mouth dropping open. She could feel herself getting hot, she couldn't tell if she was made or upset. She didn't know if she wanted to scream or cry. What was wrong with this man? She noticed Dash was gripping the side of the desk and his knuckles were turning white. Clearly he wasn't thrilled about the way his father was speaking either. Mr. Rhys seemed satisfied with the result and walked off as if he won a battle.
Once he was gone, Bethany finally let herself sink. She tried holding herself high and act as if none of his words meant anything but it could be done no longer. Her eyes fell to the dest top in front of her where her hands were folded. She didn't understand why she was so upset but she was fighting the tears that were trying to well up in her eyes. Why would he say such hurtful things? Then again, she was beneath him. Of course he would say things like that. Letting out a breath, Bethany spoke softly, trying not to let the fact she was upset be evident. "Thank you, sir. I'll get this done for you." With that she tried to get back to what she was doing but couldn't get the words out her mind. She was just a secretary.

| It was a rare occurrence that Dash would smile. It had been beaten out of him at a young age with all the high expectations for the Rhys family; he had to be perfect. Everything in his life was expected to be perfect. He hated those expectations. He didn’t want perfect. He wanted something right, something that was good and decent, not perfect. He wanted to chat with her, she was pretty and her blue eyes seemed to draw him in. But, of course his father had to ruin it. He wanted to protect her from him and that shocked him more than what his father was saying. He didn’t want this young woman to be exposed to his father’s wrath.
He knew it was less than two minutes that this back and forth went on, he was shocked at his words. He tried to relax after her left. He let go of the desk and flexed his fingers to get the color back to them. He turned to her and saw her entire demeanor had changed. He hated himself for not protecting her, shielding her from his father. He couldn’t stop himself from walking from the front of the desk to behind the desk. His demeanor changed again, the tension that his father brought changed and he wanted to make her feel better. He knelt down, his eyes were lighter again, his jaw unclenched slightly. He went to reach out to touch her hand, but he suddenly pulled his hand away, like he realized she might not like that. After all, his father had just insulted everything about her.
He didn’t want her to cry, he felt like he was losing control of everything. he felt like this when his sisters cried, but it felt worse. he could help them. he didn’t know how to help her.. he didn’t even know her name. he hesitated as he reached out again when she tried to get back to work. he took her hand lightly. ”don’t cry please…” it was a 100% change from when his father was there, his voice was still deep, but it was somehow softer, kinder, and had a touch of concern in it. ”I’m sorry for what he said… he’s such an asshole…” he mumbled quietly. ”he had no right to say any of that… but he has to suck any good or pure thing out of his world….” he said looking at her. he paused, not letting himself speak for a few moments thinking about what he was going to say next. ”can I… get you some coffee?” he asked her, his voice still calm and held a great deal of concern. ”please…” he couldn’t believe he was doing this. he looked at her carefully, wondering if he was going over some invisible line. ”as the future heir…. to this damned hell hole, I’m asking you to leave work early and come with me to get coffee… paid day off for emotional trauma because of the man with the soul sucking complex.” he added with a small laugh, hoping she would go with him.
he didn’t even understand why he was so worried about this young woman, he didn’t know her. he could have just walked away from her with his head hung low. he could have just kept up the heartless impression that he gave off because it was safer that way. but he couldn’t do that with her. he didn’t want to leave her. he couldn’t let his father get away with this and he had to figure out what to do. but first he wanted to comfort this poor girl that got stuck in the middle of the wrath his father saved for him.

In a way his father was right, she was just a secretary. But that did not make her any less of a person then him or his son. It was like he expected perfection and if you weren't perfect, you were less in his eyes. Bethany thought about Dash for a moment. She wondered what he would have had to go through as a child living with such a monster. Yes, she would not be one to beat around the bush. His father was a monster. However, Mr. Rhys made it very clear where his thoughts and loyalties lie. Even if she was attracted to the man standing in front of her now, there was no way she would be able to be with him. Not only because of the fact his father hated her and thougth her to be scum but because she wasn't about to put herself into the ring of bulls. It was clear she was not wanted there. But Bethany could not get Dash's eyes out of her mind. It was like they peirced right through her to her heart. They saw something different, they were good. They were not like the ones of his father.
None of that could change how the man made her feel. She felt so little. Bethany's mother had always taught her that she is her own person and you chose your path and how great you would be. Bethany never saw herself better than anyone else. In this moment, she wasn't sure why she was so emotional. And she wasn't sure why she let his words impact her so much. The red head did not see or really hear Dash move fromt he front of desk she was sittign at to move back around to where she was sitting. Her head turned quickly and she gave him a wide eyed look. "Sir?" She didn't want to call him Dash, not at work. That would be unprofessional and she didn't want to give his father another reason to talk ill about her. What she saw when she turned around was a Dash she saw moment ago however this time he was..different. He knelt down, his body less tense and his eyes soft. She saw him reach out for her hand and it made her heart skip a beat but he retreated his hand. What...what was he doing? She started blushing and turned her chair away slightly.
Her eyes were down, looking at her folded hands which were now in her lap. She was still fighting back tears but so far was doing a decent job at holding them back. This time, Dash tried again and went for her hand, this time actually taking her hand in his. "Don't cry please..." Bethany's heart began to beat faster. What was she suppose to do? Her bosses son was now holding her hand. She could not help however to note the tone of his voice. It was kind and held concern. Was he really worried about her?
"I'm sorry for what he said...he's such an asshole. He had no right to say any of that..but he has to suck any good or pure thing out of his world..." Bethany turned her chair again, now facing him. "Please.." Bethany could not ignore the plea in his voice. Her deep blue eyes took Dash in as he kneeled in front of her. Her heart was racing still as she thought of what to say. She was about to speak when Dash spoke again, inviting her to have a coffee. "As the future heir...to this damned hell hole, I'm asking you to leave work early tand come with me to get coffee...paid day off for emotion trauma because of the man with the soul sucking complex." Bethany gave a tiny smile and a little chuckle, losing control of the tears she was holding back.
Tears came streaming down her face and she quickly turned from Dash. "I am so sorry. I don't mean to cry." she paused for a minute, unsure what to do about what he asked. "Are you sure thats okay? I .. I mean...who will watch the front desk?" It was really a silly qustion to ask but of course, being Bethany, she had to ask.

| Dash flinched slightly when she continued to call him sir. He didn’t like that. One thing he was certain about was that when the law firm was handed over to him that was going out the window. people would be treated with the respect they deserved and no one would have to be treated horribly again. she seemed to be holding back her tears, he didn’t know if that was good or bad. human emotions were somewhat void in the Rhys family, any emotions were trained out of you at a young age. then he had to make her chuckle and he swore he saw a smile, but then she started to cry. he didn’t understand what was going on. sure, he’d seen his little siblings cry, all of them, but by the age of ten or eleven that just slowly slipped away. once you realized in the Rhys house that weakness was not an option, you got rid of it. he knew it would be a psychologists dream to do research and what not on his family. but, that’s just how it was. that’s why he always let his brothers and sisters over at his home whenever they wanted. he had no expectations for them, he loved them anyways.
he opened his messenger bag that was casually strapped over his shoulder, inside was a suit jacket that was carelessly stuffed in it. clearly, he had no regards to the dress code here; no suit jacket and no tie. why did he need to dress nicely just to be an errand boy for the day? he rifled around and found a handkerchief. he couldn’t help but smirk softly. ”I knew one day… after carrying this thing around with me for years.. I would be able to do this.” he teased softly as he handed her the soft fabric. Well, the story was mostly true. His grandmother, who he swore was the only non-evil person in his family besides his siblings, always told him to carry one with him wherever he went so he could help a girl out if she needed it. that it was the gentlemanly thing to do.
He gave her a small smile. ”Don’t apologize for that… he has the power to make anyone crumble…” he said softly. He knew it was true. He’d watched grown men crumble with defeat in front of his father. high powered judges bend at his will. he knew the man had powers that he used for evil instead of good. he listened to her question and nodded his head, even though she was turned away from him, she couldn’t see that. ”of course… if he doesn’t like it… then I’ll deal with it..” he commented. he suddenly picked up the phone and dialed an extension number. ”Kylie? This is Dash… yeah… Listen… the secretary… umm.. the pretty red head…. yeah… I need to do some on the job training with her… you know.. the basics and what not… I’m going to forward all of her calls to your desk..” he said simply, though his voice held no real threat and he was kind towards the lady on the other end. ”thank you Kylie…” he added before he hung up the phone. ”there.. you’re all set.”
he slowly stood up and glanced around. ”plus… he had all of his stuff with him including his briefcase, that means he’s headed out for the day and he won’t be back..” he said with a shrug. ”I can’t say where he’s going, but it won’t be back here.” he added. he was still trying to figure out why he had the urge to make sure she was safe from his father, he knew the man could be soul crushing. he never blamed people for leaving this place, he thought about it almost constantly. he thought for a moment and looked at his watch. ”actually… umm.. there is actually a couple… people.. I need to meet soon.. do you mind if they tag along?” he asked, purposely being vague.

Bethany wondered what Dash's place was in the company. Being the owners son gave him a lot of sway in a company. But from what she saw today, the two of them are very different. How could someone like Dash come from someone like his father? It didn't sound like the two of them got a long much but then again, this could have just been a random outburst. But, why would he still be sticking around her if he was like his father. All of this was so confusing to Bethany and her mind was swirling. She turned to look and see what he was doing when she heard him rumaging through the bag he held. Soon he was holding out a handkerchief to her. "I knew one day.. after carrying this thing around with me for years.. I would be able to do this." Bethany looked from him to the hanky and then back to him, unsure if he was being seroius or not. She reached out slowly and took it from him.
It was beautiful and part of her didn't really even want to use it because it was hand stitched on and everything. She blotted her eyes, drying them off. Bethany looked up at his face, catching the smile that was appearing on his lips. "Don't apologize for that...he has the power to make anyone crumble..." Great. So in other words there really wasn't much she could do but just sit there and take it next time he thought it would be fun to pick on the poor secretary. But now Dash wanted to take her for a coffee? God this day just couldn't get any more full od drama. When she asked about what about her duties at work, he seemed to jump on the opportunity to take charge. "If he doesn't like, then I'll deal with it." There was a pause just just a slight second and then Dash was on the phone.
"Kylie? This is Dash, yeah, listen... the secretary.. umm.. the pretty red head.. yeah.. I need to do some on the job training with her.. you know... the basics and what not.. I'm going to forward all of her calls to your desk." Bethany wanted to tell him to stop, to not do that. She hated putting her load on someone elses plate. At least he was nice about it. However, it still didn't feel right after what had just happeened and what his father said about how secretary's were just good for ... what did he say... after lunch or a break or stress reliever or something. "Thank you Kylie... " He hung up the phone, "There, you're all set. She looked up at him with her deep blue eyes, "Thank you."
Bethany watched as he stood up, "plus.. he had all of his stuff with him including his briefcase, that means he's headed out for the day and he won't be back. I can't say where he's going, but it won't be back here." She wasn't sure what to say to that. She was glad he was gone though. She was about to speak when he started again, "Actually... umm.. there is actually a couple... people...I need to meet soon. Do you midn if they tag along?" Wait, was he being serious? Why would he want to take his secretary with him to meet some people? She barely knew him and him her, what was his plan with all of this. She gave him a look of her being unsure of what to do. "Are you sure about this? I'm just a secretary. I doubt you want me with you during a meeting." Her voice was soft and nervous. Everything was happening so fast and she was trying to keep it all sorted, but it was getting rather difficult to keep track of how she felt about the whole situation, and Dash.

| Dash nodded his head softly at her question, he scoffed softly. ”You’re not just a secretary… don’t believe a word he said… trust me.. he wouldn’t be where he is without secretaries…” there was a ghost of a smirk there, like it was an inside joke to himself. ”don’t worry about it… they aren’t that kind of meeting.” he added. for a second he paused and looked at her. ”I’m sorry.. I’m being rude… I never asked you for your name.” he said softly. Here he was, getting her in trouble with the backlash of his father’s hatred for himself and he didn’t even know her name.
he waited, before he pulled his phone out of his pocket and pushed a number, ”Hey, this is Dash… I’m leaving in about ten minutes… same place, yeah… don’t leave before I get there…” he said seriously into the phone, the voice on the other end sounded female. ”dash I wouldn’t leave them alone…I’m not stupid..” his head nodded, not that the voice on the other end could see him. ”I.. I ah.. I’m bringing a friend with me…” he paused and rolled his eyes. ”A girl….?” it was a loaded question he knew. ”I’ll see you in twenty minutes..” he said hanging up the line before he dialed another number. ”Hello. This is Dash.. could you bring the car around in about ten minutes? Thank you.” he said bringing the brief conversation to an end.
he looked at Bethany carefully. ”is there anything you need to get first? jacket? purse… umm.. anything else?” he wasn’t exactly sure what she would need to grab. He hoped she had a jacket or coat, especially in the freezing weather outside. He supposed his suit jacket could work just fine for her, since they would be in a warmed car, then in a coffee shop. he stuffed his phone back in his pocket and gave her a small apologetic look. ”sorry.. I forgot I promised to meet them.. and they can be quite ruthless when they want to be.” he said with a small smirk, still being vague about the whole thing.
by the time the car came around he politely held the door to the building open and then the same with the car door. he hated being driven, but he decided not to fight it sometimes. why fight a losing battle if you could win the war? it took about fifteen minutes to get to the coffee shop, it was nearby. he got out before holding his hand out for her, just in case she needed help, but he didn’t want to just jump in and help out. some girls didn’t like that. before he could even look around he heard his name through the crowds of people and then suddenly he had two young children attached to his legs. ”hey guys.” he said softly, his demeanor completely different now, he was clearly way more relaxed than he was at work. an older girl, teens walked behind them. she swiftly gave Dash a hug and eyeballed Bethany with a bright smile. Dash avoided her look, ”thanks for getting them for me… you better get going for whatever debutante meeting you have.” he teased as the young girl got into the car they just got out of.
Dash looked at Bethany with a somewhat guilty looking smirk. ”sorry.. these are the twins.. Jack and Ella.. and that was Violet..” he said motioning after the black car that was already gone. He motioned towards the small coffee shop that was somewhat empty. He held the door open for Bethany and the kids before he followed them in. he didn’t know if he should explain himself or not, maybe once they got themselves warmed up.

"You're not just a secretary...don't believe a word he said...trust me..he wouldn't be where he is without secretaries." Bethany turned to look at him, watching his expressions. It amused her how he could say such things about his father, but then again he did and was standing up for her which made her slightly confused however she was glad that he had been there when his father did show up. But now she was confused on who all was going to be at this place he wanted to take her for a drink. At first it was just her, now there were others. Bethany let out a quiet breath. Today really had taken a wierd turn. "I'm sorry..I'm being rude...I never asked you for your name." He was being rude? Not exactly. It wasn't like she had a name plate out on her desk, she was just a girl, a secretary. That was all everyone at the office called her. She didn't have a name in this place. However, he seemed sincere when he apologized for not asking for her name. He would be the first to even ask. "My name is Bethany. Her voice was quite but matter of fact.
So now he knew her name. It was a step up from everyone else in the office. Bethany watched as he took out his phone and dialed a number. She sat quietly in her chair, fiddling with something in her hand. "Hey, this is Dash...I'm leaving in about ten minutes...same place, yeah...don't leave before I get there.." His tone was serious but not like the tone he held with his father only a little while earlier. Bethany could just barely hear a voice on the other end but it was clearly female. So we were meeting up with another woman? Well this was... odd. "I..I ah..I'm bringing a friend with me.." Bethany looked up, now curious as to what he was saying so she was listening a little closer. She saw him roll his eyes. "I'll see you in twenty minutes..." He then hung up the phone and then dialed another number. This time he was telling someone to have his car pulled around front. She had heard of people having drivers but never actually been one of the people to be driven around. This day was just getting better and better.
Dash then turned to her, "Is there anything you need to get first? Jacket? Purse..um.. anything else?" She smiled, and shook her head. She had a light jacket and her purse sitting under her desk. She liked to keep her things near her so she knew where they were. "No, I'm all set. Her jacket wasn't exactly the warmest but she figured it would have to do. Of course, she had to wear a nice dress when the weather was super cold. So she would be cold for a little bit but there wasn't really nothing she could do about it. "Sorry..I forgot I promised to mee them..and they can be quite ruthless when they want to be." Bethany raised a brow, even more confused now at who they would be meeting up with. She noticed the smirk on his face and began to raise her suspicion. It was a girl on a the phone and he was talking about meeting them. Did he have kids or something? She had no idea.
Walking with him down to the front doors of the building was odd. Bethany usually walked everywhere alone. She also usually took public transportation everywhere. Traffic here was insane and she wasn't about to drive in it. She probably would get anywhere she needed to go faster using public transportation anyway. She gave him a smile as he held the doors open for her. "Thank you." She said thank you each time he held the door for her. He was so polite and kind. Bethany held her jacket close to her and pulled the bottom of her dress as far down as it would go to keep her legs as warm as she could, which wasn't much. Luckily it was warm in the car so it didn't take her long to warm up.
After the car ride, which was pretty quite, Dash got out of the car and again offered to help her out of the car. Bethany was actually greatful he did so but she was hesitant to take his hand. Was it odd she felt embarressed to take his hand? Taking it, she did her best to get out of the car as lady like as she could. Once out, she watched as two young children ran up to Dash, grabbing onto him. "Hey guys." Bethany watched him again as his whoel demenour changed around the children. Where these his? She had no idea what was going on. But she couldn't help but let a smile come to her lips. It was nice seeing him out of the office and much more relaxed. She then saw the older girl walk up to them. She wasn't at all what Bethany had pictured when she heard the voice on the phone. She was much younger then she would have thought. The girl went up to Dash and gave him a hug, smiling at Bethany the whole time. Thanks for gettign them for me...you better get going for whatever debutante meeting you have." And then the girl got into the car they had just gotten out of.
Bethany still wasn't any less confused as she was earlier. She had more of an idea of what was going on or at least thought she did. Dash looked over at her, giving her what looked like a guilty look. "Sorry..these are the twins..Jack and Ella..and that was Violet.." She looked down at the small children. "And they are....what do you? She might as well just ask. That way at least it was out in the open and she knew what she was dealing with. With that, she walked into the shop, through the door that Dash was again opening for her and the children who followed suit. Finally somewhere warm. Her legs were very cold but she didn't let that look apparent.

| Bethany, he would have to remember that. He wanted to give her his jacket. That would be the right thing to do. Her jacket didn’t look designed well for winter. He suddenly pulled out his suit jacket and handed it to her silently. He felt like he was twelve asking his crush to dance for the first time. Thankfully the ride didn’t take so long. He was pretty excited to see his brother and sister. He needed to see them more, but he couldn’t bring himself to go to the family house and be around his parents. He got enough of that on a daily basis at work. He was pretty excited to be away from the office. It was a plus to be out with Bethany, she was growing on him. He knew how it looked. He knew that it looked sort of horrible. He made sure his sister was in the car and safe before he turned his full attention to Jack, Ella, and Bethany.
He heard her question and gave her a small smirk. ”They are my siblings… Violet is sixteen…” He explained. ”Jack and Ella are ten…” he said softly. ”That would be horrible wouldn’t it, if they were mine? I was… fifteen when they came around…” he explained. he stopped himself from explaining all of the dirty details. He knew that Bethany had, had enough of his father. If he could do anything about it, she wouldn’t have to deal with him again, but he knew that it would be impossible.
He was thankful for the warmth of the shop. He would be even more thankful when they got their drinks. It only took them a few minutes to get to the front of the line, he ordered the twins hot chocolate and he asked them to find them seats. He looked at her with a small smile. ”Jack and Ella… umm..” he paused, he was unsure of how to explain. he took a deep breath and his shoulders shrugged slightly. ”It’s hard to explain… without getting into the details of the Rhys skeletons.” he said softly. ”But let’s just say… I’d like it if my little brothers and sisters aren’t like me when they grow up fully… so I like to take them several times a month… and the other two Vi and our brother.. they stay with me a lot too.” he told her with another small shrug.
After they ordered, he walked with her to where Jack and Ella were sitting. Looking closely they had a mix of his intense grey eyes, that he got from his father, theirs were a few shades more blue. they also had reddish brown hair, instead of the similar shade of brown that it seemed that his full siblings shared. He sat at the table with them, they had just come from school, all dressed in their uniforms. Even though his mother couldn’t care less about these two, she wasn’t going to let on to people that they were unwelcomed. So, they got the best schooling just like the others. The two looked at Bethany with bright eyes, clearly the joy hadn’t been sucked out of them yet.
He could tell they were dying to start asking questions, but he knew they were trained better than that. he had a smirk on his lips, that was clearly present, he took a long sip of his coffee. ”Jack.. Ella… This is Bethany…” he said softly to them. He knew that was all they needed, he could see it in their eyes. Jack started in with her first, just bringing up normal ten year old boy questions. He watched them, clearly amused with what was happening. Ella cut in, clearly still trying to process what was happening. ”Dash never brings girls around….” Dash almost choked on the hot liquid in his mouth. He looked like he actually was blushing this time and he shot Ella a stern but amused look. ”Ella! he said shocked. The little girl ignored him, clearly not concerned with him ”You’re pretty…I like your hair..” she added, with a small smile, leaning forward she blew softly on the hot chocolate, before taking a small drink.

"Oh. Thank you." He was very kind in offering his jacket to her. It would help to cover her legs slightly but she was careful for it not to touch the ground. It looked expensive and she didn't want to get it dirty. The ride didn't take long but it gave her time to warm up slightly before getting back out again. This was all just happening so fast, Bethany was just going along with everything. Once the car pulled away, Dash then turned his attention to her and the two young children
Dash grinned at her question on who the kids where. It was a innocent question as she didn't want to assume anything. "They are my siblings....Violet is sixteen...Jack and Ella are ten.." Siblings. That made sense. She just wanted to make sure though, you never knew these days. "That would be horrible wouldn't it..if they were mine? I was..fifteen when they came around.." Bethany gave a nod of understanding and a small smile.
They moved inside, thankfully it was warn and her legs were finally getting back to normal temperature. She held the jacket he lent her over her arms in half. She stood in line with Dash, looking around the shop taking everything in. He got the kids their drinks and then told them to go find them a seat. She couldn't help but have a small smile on her lips as she watched him interact with the kids. "Jack and Ella .. um.." Bethany turned to listen to him as they made their way up to give their order. She noticed he sighed and shrugged. Was it complicated? "It's hard to explain..without getting into the details of the Rhys skeletons. But lets just say...I'd like it if my little brothers and sisters aren't like me when they grow up fully...so I like to take them several times a month...and the other two Vi and our brother...they stay with me a lot too." Again, he shrugged. Curious. "I don't think you turned out all that bad." She said quietly and then blushed after she said it.
They placed their order and got their drinks and then made their way over to where Jack and Ella were sitting. As she walked towards them, she took in their appearance and then looked at Dash. They were definiately siblings, she could tell that. They did have a different tone of brown in their hair then Dash but that could be many things. She walked up to the table and sat down next to Dash. She felt odd sitting next to him but not in a bad way. It was more like, a school girl sitting next to her crush at lunchtime. She blushed a little at the thought in her mind and took a drink of her coffee.
The redhead noticed the eyes watching her from across the table. She looked up and gave them a smile. They really were adorable. It looked as though they had something on their mind but were waiting for something to do anything. Finally, Dash spoke, "Jack..Ella..This is Bethany." His voice was soft, she liked the way he spoke with them. It was as if he had just opened the flood gates. Jack started asking all sorts of questions making Bethany giggle at his enthusiasm. Ella finally cut her brother off and put in her two cents, "Dash never brings girls around..." This caused Bethany to cough on her coffee a bit, growing pink again. It seemed as if Dash too choked a little at the little girls comment. Bethany turned slightly to look at him and it looked as if he might be blushing. "Ella! However, the little girl didn't seem phased by her brother at all, "You're pretty...I like your hair." Bethany blushed slightly but smiled, "Thank you Ella, that is very kind." She smiled at the little girl, "I like your hair too." She chuckled lightly and then took a drink of her coffee. Well, this was interesting. She watched Dash, wondering what he thought about all this.

| Dash couldn’t help but chuckle harshly. ”Well… you don’t know me yet…” he said like it was the easiest answer. But, he did put an emphasis on yet. He felt like he was too much like his father. He was being pushed in a direction that he didn’t want. Pushed through an open door that he didn’t want to go through. He couldn’t do anything about it. ”I suppose it’s only a matter of time before I turn into him…” He mumbled, mostly to himself.
He wasn’t sure how to sit next to her, where to put his hands or how to hold himself. It was like he wasn’t a full functioning adult. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been around women before. He took a long drink of his coffee. He tapped his pointer finger absentmindedly on the table as he listened to them talk, well, his siblings were doing the most of it. He was very amused with his siblings, but he was not expecting the things that came out of their mouths. Especially Ella, she was always the quiet one. He liked that about her. Ella grinned softly at her. ”You’re welcome.” she said softly. She grinned happily and a blush came to her cheeks. ”Thank you…” She looked at Dash with a bright smile, but then something crossed her face and it wasn’t a happy looking look. Dash smiled at her softly and reached across the table and took her hand softly. ”I agree… You are a wonderfully kind and pretty little girl.” he said softly to her, knowing almost what she was thinking. He knew that the twins rarely heard anything positive form other people except Dash, Vi, and Max.
He glanced over at Bethany with a smile and a small wink. Both Ella and Jack seemed pleased with everything. Jack was shifting uncomfortably, loosening the plaid tie. Dash saw this and chuckled softly. ”If you two brought a change of clothes… go change.. I can’t be seen with nerds.” he said teasing them. They both giggled and scrambled out of their chairs taking their bags with them. Dash watched them before looking to Bethany. There was still a tint of pink in his cheeks and he couldn’t help but chuckle as he took a sip of his coffee. ”They like you…” he said softly to her. He wasn’t sure what that meant, but he knew that if his siblings liked her, that was a good sign.
He didn’t know what that meant for himself but he liked the idea that the two kids liked her. It was all true, he never brought girls around because they always folded beneath the pressure of expectations his parents had for him. He cleared his throat a little, a smirk coming to his lips. ”They don’t get out much.. “ he said with a chuckle. ”New people are a mystery to them… They’re my parents’ dirty little secrets… I love them though, they’re two of my favorite people.” he said wondering if he should explain it to her. He barely knew this girl, he didn’t want to go spreading things around, especially the things that his parents worked so hard to hide. |

Her eyes met his as he spoke, "Well..you don't know me yet..." Yeah, he was right, she didn't know him. However, seeing how his father was and comparing the two, Bethany knew for sure that this man sitting near her was nothing like the evil man she worked for. Stone was a refined man, there was no doubt about that, but he had a kindness about him. That was what she liked. "I suppose it's only a matter of time before I turn into him..." He spoke again, Bethany barely heard what he said but shook her head. "I don't see it." It was true, she didn't see it. Stone was nothing like his father. Besides actually being that man's son, Stone was so much different, she could already say and see that about him. With that she blushed again and looked away, taking a sip of her drink. It felt nice going down her throat, warming her body.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Stone seem to almost shift in his seat. He seemed, uneasy or something. She didn't say anything though, listening to him tap on the table with his finger. Was something wrong? But her attention was then on the children sitting across from them, giving Ella a smile. She was a very sweet little girl. Bethany could see the family resemblance between Stone and the kids but something was different. The little girl's face then turned serious, almost a sad look to her. When Stone took the little girls hand she smiled, he was so sweet to them, it was so cute to watch. "I agree, you are a wonderfully kind and pretty little girl."
The red head caught the glance and the wink form Stone and blushed slightly again. If she wasn't careful she would forever be pink around him. Luckily, his glance was taken away but him turning to the children. "If you two brought a change of clothes...go change...I can't be seen with nerds." Bethany giggled at this and the kids quickly took off to go change. When he turned back to her, she noticed that his cheeks were just slightly pink. This made her feel a little better. He chuckled and took a sip of his coffe and she followed suit. "They like you.." His voice was soft, almost quiet. Bethany playfully raised an eyebrow. "Oh really. Thats a good thing...right?"
Bethany glanced around the coffee shop and her blue eyes landed back on Stone. He was quite a handsome man. He had such distinguishing features, she was sure he got that from his father. He held himself to what seemed a match higher standard then most would. She was sure that was also because of his father. In a way, Bethany felt bad for him, having to try so hard to make a grumpy mean old man happy. Bethany was brought out of her thoughts by his voice, "They don't get out much.." He chuckled, a smirk on his lips. She liked that. "New people are a mystery to them..They're my parents' dirty little secrets..I love them though, they're two of my favorite people." Her brow raised slightly. Dirty little secrets? Could this be why they looked slightly different? She wasn't going to speculate though, it was not her place. "They seem like very sweet kids. You seem to mean a lot to them as well." It was just an observation, though it was very clear they were close. She gave him a smile and taking another sip. She sat down her drink and cleared her thought quietly. "So, where to from here?" Being here with him made Bethany forget what had happened earlier. She liked that.

| Dash knew the twins’ liking her was a good thing. He could trust his two youngest siblings, and if they liked someone, then he knew they had to be okay. So, it wasn’t a hundred percent, but he couldn’t allow himself to believe that someone as pretty and sweet as he seemed to be was a bad person. He nodded his head after he thought about it. ”I hope so…” he said with a small grin. It was a great thing if he was being honest. But, he didn’t want to worry yet. He knew it they liked her, he would to…and after what happened that day with his father, he wasn’t sure what she was actually thinking. If his theory was correct, which he felt it was, as soon as he was officially a lawyer he would be a horrible and miserable excuse of a person just like his father. He didn’t know what she really though of him and he was worried about non-existent situations already.
He nodded his head again. ”They are sweet.. don’t let that fool you though. I think all Rhys’ have the ability to fool people.. and they can act like typical ten year olds..” he said with a shrug of his shoulders. Maybe there was hope for them, they were after al only half Rhys and didn’t share half with him, so he had hope. There was no know their biological mother and his were that much alike, unless his father had a type. He seemingly ignored the last part. He knew he meant a lot to them, but he couldn’t allow those sort of thoughts. Feelings were a taboo subject in the Rhys family. Suppress. He could think it all he wanted, but once it was spoken he knew it would be out there to be judged.
Her question caught him off guard. What was next? He didn’t know. He thought of it in two different ways, though he couldn’t voice that. What was next for them? Was this a once time outing and when she saw him next at work he would just be that boss’ son and someone to avoid; just Mr. Rhys and not Dash? Or, what was next in their plans? He took this as the safer of the two. ”Well, we usually get a warm drink, then head back to my place where we sit and we do our homework together.. then we settle in with takeout and a movie marathon..” he told her. ”Usually they knock out half way through the second movie, popcorn is an always..” he added. He fiddled with his cup for a few moments. Thinking, he wanted to invite her to come with them. Not to get her home with him, but because he wanted to continue their good time together. He wanted to spend time with her, not matter how it was spent. He wanted to get to know more about her. ”Do you want to join us?” He asked her, in an almost cautious tone. It was like her wasn’t quite sure what to do in this type of situation he put himself in. He wasn’t used to getting a girl to his place with such innocent intentions. He wasn’t even used to his type of girl sweet like Bethany was.
He looked up seeing the twins coming back to sit. They looked one hundred percent more relaxed; Jack in a pair of dark jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt, and a pair of tennis shoes; Ella in a plain warm grey tunic and a pair of leggings, and ankle boots. Compared to their green plaid skirt (Ella) and perfectly pressed khakis (Jack), uncomfortable perfectly pressed button ups, a green vest over it, a clip on tie, and their shined shoes. They looked more like ten year olds instead of stuck up prep kids, which neither of them were. Jack had a smirk on his lips as he sat down with his sister. ”Any less nerdy for you?” he questioned. Dash couldn’t help but smirk at the younger boy. ”Ella looks good… but you.. you’re still nerdy…” he teased his little brother with a deep chuckle. He couldn’t stop himself from winking at Ella, who instantly blushed at his gesture and words. That only caused him to chuckle again. He looked at Bethany, remembering he had invited her along and was waiting for an answer, something he hoped wouldn’t be a rejection to his risky question.
