A is for... Aloof. At least, she is to an extent. Mabel isn't very forthcoming and she can be a little distant, though it's not out of any inherent cruelty or disinterest in the world; it's just who she is. May isn't perky or excitable, nor is she warm and tender. Well, she can be the latter two, if she's around people who she cares about, but it's not some sort of natural state. To the general public, Mabel most likely comes off as fashionably disinterested. At best, she seems casual and cool. At worst, people assume she's cold.
B is for... Barefoot. Now that's in the city, she can't exactly run around without shoes all the time... but she wishes she could. When she was a child, it was virtually impossible to get her to keep her shoes on, and she used to walk around her neighborhood barefoot all the time (even into her teenage years). If May does not need to be wearing shoes, she won't be. She just doesn't like them.
C is for... Coordinated. May is a dancer. Obviously, Mabel can't dance if she can't keep herself upright, so she's pretty far from clumsy. She has great posture, fine-tuned balance skills and - while she's subject to the occasional stumble (her posture may be near-perfect, but she is not) - it's safe to say that May doesn't have some sort of equilibrium problem. (This also comes in handy being that she waitresses.)
D is for... Diligent. Mabel is incredibly methodical and does not give up once she starts something (see below: perfectionist).
E is for... Expressive. Her reactions are as plain as the nose on her face a good majority of the time. Really. You know exactly how May feels, unless she makes a very deliberate attempt to disguise it.
F is for... Feminine. Honestly, Mabel enjoys dressing up and she wears makeup on a daily basis. Most of her wardrobe consists of dresses and stylish blouses, she puts a lot of work into her hair... You get the gist. On top of that, she's relatively poised
G is for... Guarded. May is not one to trust very easily and she disguises her deeper emotions quite well, unless you earn her trust. (See below: Xenophobic)
H is for... Honest. Lying is not something that Mabel does. Hiding her feelings from people she doesn't trust, duh, but keeping things from those that she loves? That's a no-go. Directly lying to anyone? Also a no-go.
I is for... Imaginative. As an artist, Mabel has a strong imagination. She's very in-tune with her creative visions, to the point that she often loses herself in reveries when the right song starts playing; she can close her eyes and see performances unfold, like every good dancer should. In fact, her imagination is probably one of her favorite things about herself.
J is for... Jokester. One who does not truly know Mabel may think that she is all work and no games, however she knows how to mess around and have fun when it comes down to it.
K is for... Kinesthetic. Put simply, May likes doing things herself. She doesn't want to sit in a lecture hall and mindlessly scribble notes. She doesn't want to sit in her room and read a book. Mabel wants to get her hands on things; she's a very active learner. In order to understand something, May needs to see it for herself - or, at the very least, actively participate in a discussion about it. She has to be in on things, not watching from the outside.
L is for... Loyal. Mabel is a team player, plain and simple. She stands by those that she loves without hesitation and that's really the end of that.
M is for... Meticulous (See: diligent)
N is for... Nocturnal. This isn't so much a personality trait as it is a bad habit. There is something about night that Mabel finds very welcoming or fascinating. Oftentimes she will be awake during late, or very early hours.
O is for...Observant. She just notices things. Mabel gets to know the people who she cares about, and she gets to know them well; she's someone who picks up on social cues and often senses when something is amiss without being told. May's also one to pick up on mannerisms and could probably do physical impressions of her friends and family.
P is for... Perfectionist. Mabel is - and always has been - the type of person who strives to be the best she can be. She sets the bar very high (both for herself and others) and expects nothing less than flawlessness in her own work. Often, she will record her own rehearsals and watch the tapes afterward, in order to catch her problem spots and eliminate as many errors as possible. May applies her perfectionism to every aspect of her life, as her high standards exceed further than just her dancing capabilities; she strives to turn her only best work into professors, to look her best at all times, and to encourage others to raise their own bars. However, with a little support, she is learning to be a bit easier on herself.
Q is for... Quick. This can be taken two ways: in regards to her physical speed, or her ability to catch onto things at a fast rate. May is not only capable of moving very quickly and taking on upbeat dances, but she is also a quick study; she can pick up several-step combinations after only a couple demonstrations, and she has a strong enough memory to learn a whole routine without needing more than a few run-throughs. Thanks to this skill, she rarely falls behind.
R is for... Resourceful. Mabel is relatively inventive and likes to think that she's good at coming up with unique ways to solve problems. She can pick a lock with a bobby pin, for example... not that it's a skill she uses for evil purposes; don't look at her like that.
S is for... Spontaneous. May can be a bit impulsive which can be a good thing in some situations and a very bad thing in others.
T is for... Tactless. At least, she is when it comes to opening her mouth. Mabel certainly talks a lot, but she isn't always good at getting the words out in a way that's sensitive or considerate. She's not intentionally cruel; she just doesn't think before she speaks.
U is for... Unyielding. Seriously, the girl just doesn't budge. Once May makes up her mind, it's very difficult to change it. It's almost impossible, really.
V is for... Vehement. There is not a single thing Mabel St. James does halfway, and this includes how she feels about things. She's passionate and sometimes can even be described as intense, as she has the tendency to dial her senses up to full power. When Mabel loves, hates, cares, worries, protects, wants - she does so vehemently. End of story.
W is for... Wordy. When she speaks, May is far from short (unless she's irritated or something, in which case, she hardly speaks). Generally, Mabel doesn't just beat around the bush; she grabs a bat and beats the damn thing senseless. That's not to say that she never gets to the point or that she's the only St. James who lacks the "blunt" gene. May just... hammers down the point with lots of words.
X is for... Xenophobic, or, "unreasonably afraid of foreigners or strangers." Okay, so that's an exaggeration to the highest degree, but Mabel is very unwilling to trust strangers. She is slow to warm up, often to the point that she may give off the impression that she is callous or rude if someone doesn't stick around for more than five minutes. It takes a while for her to be completely comfortable around someone, and even longer for her to trust someone new.
Y is for Young. May is, after all, the only daughter in the family and she damn well knows it. Growing up, she certainly tried to use it to her advantage (even though she and her brothers are only a single year apart), but now she sometimes wishes that she can shed the "forever their little girl," cliche that she feels around both her parents and her siblings from time to time.
Z is for Zoological. Yep, Mabel is an animal lover. Domestic animals, wild animals, birds, fish... okay, maybe not fish...
