America was a foreign land to her, it was different and it was intimidating - but Summer wasn't one to be intimidated too easily, she came up against some very intimidating people while working so she had to learn to not be intimidated by anything, at least not let anyone know that she is intimidated. Even though, she was enjoying her time here. She had been in New York for a few days and was yet to see any of her family - she wasn't avoiding them she was just that she had been jet lagged and wanted to spend some time with her fiancee in a new city. So far they had visited Central Park, the Empire State Building, Times Square and the Statue of Liberty - other than that they had simply walked around and enjoyed the streets. But eventually they had to get to what they had come here to do, and that was to introduce her fiancee to her family. Even though she hadn't spoken to them for a while she still wanted them to be in her life - she really wanted to mend the broken bond that lay between them since Spring had died. She regretted leaving them how she had, but that was all in the past and she had accepted that there was nothing she could do about that now, other than try to mend what was broken. And that was why she had contacted her siblings and asked to meet up with them.

She was well aware that there was a chance that they wouldn't want to see her at all - and she was almost certain that one of them, Winter, would not want to see her at all - but she had to try and she felt like talking to them first would be easier than talking to her parents straight up. They had agreed to meet at a cafe - one that she knew since she didn't know too many - that was near the hotel where she was staying. She was nervous - both of her siblings were going to  be there so she was expecting a lot of tension between them, especially with Winter as they hadn't been close before their sister died and that happening just made it all the worse for them. But she was going to go to their little meeting and do her best to be civil and pleasant no matter what happened - god she hoped that there was no arguing or anything of the sort, just a simple conversation between siblings. Being the person she was, Summer arrived earlier than the agreed time. Because of this she ordered herself a coffee - maybe she should have waited for the other two but she was still a little jet lagged and needed something to keep her awake and aware - and found a table that could seat the three of them and waited. All the time checking her phone for the time and for any cancelation messages.

being the only boy in a house with three sisters had always been intimidating for fall. most of the things they wanted to do he was okay with, he loved playing barbies with winter or spring and he was okay with sometimes getting a pink hand-me-down from one of his older sisters. however sometimes he was very aware of the 3-1 ratio of girls and guys among his siblings. sometimes it got awkward, sometimes he hated when his parents showed pictures of him in a dress as a baby because 'they had it from summer/spring's childhood and hadn't expected a boy'. yet he had felt the pain when that ratio become 2-1 when spring was lowered into the grown in a coffin covered with flowers and then when it dwindled farther until it was just winter and fall when summer left. a part of him died too, having to become strong with winter and his parents. any chance of him ever telling them about jacob was gone and he knew spring wouldn't want him to let it fester like it did but he also knew that the family had been through enough and didn't need any more pain added on to it.



so when he was contacted by summer, knowing that the ratio could go back to 2-1, he had made sure she knew that he was coming. winter hadn't wanted to but fall was an expert in his sister and had managed to drag her along. granted, he may have told her that they were going to get frozen yogurt and oh, he just really wanted some coffee but he was sure that someday she'd probably appreciate it. he knew that she harbored some resentment from what he believed was summer's running away but fall could sort of understand why she had done it. he knew had he been in the car with spring during the accident even knowing that it was an accident and nobody was found at fault he would have felt survivor's guilt, wondering why the universe chose to take her instead of him. he wasn't even the car with her and sometimes he wondered that, wondering why they had to take his big sister and leave him there to try and glue the broken puzzle pieces of their life back together. he gripped winter's arm, making sure that she wasn't going to run off on him as he entered the coffee shop. he had already warned her that his degree was in biology and while he worked with old, long extinct species in the museum he still knew the pressure points to paralyze her and drag her to the meeting to make sure she didn't run.



when he saw summer sitting in a chair, sipping a cup of coffee, he was surprised at the anger he felt towards her. he hadn't expected to be angry, he had left that all to winter and had just tried to keep his family calm, but he was. he was supposed to have his big sister there to help when they were dealing with spring's death and she had just left them, leaving fall as the oldest sibling with no idea how to act. "summer." he murmured, unsure what he could really say as he sat down, making sure that winter sat down next to him with a pointed look. "it's been a long time."
