mondays were always Meili’s favorite days, sure they were the start of a work week and she was normally very busy. but, Mondays were the days she didn’t do her evening job. she got to spend her time however she wanted and that usually had to do with the girls. tonight it was a small diner close to their apartment, they waited for their food and Luli was talking away. Meili was listening to her as she spoke, about school, oh the life of a fourth grader, apparently a kid names Brody Lyles pulled on one of her braids today and Meili couldn’t help but cringe, was it really that time that boys would tease her because they liked her? just the idea of it made her want to lock both of them up and protect them from the cruel world. Meili probably needed to protect herself more from the cruel world, but the girls were everything to her. they ordered, Meili got a blt and a side of french fries, Luli got a grilled cheese and french fries, and Jia got chicken tenders and apple sauce.
Meili could see by the look of Jia’s face that the four year old had a question just eating at her. Meili thanked the waitress as she refilled their drinks and walked away. ”Jia, what’s wrong sweetheart?” she asked the girl quietly. the adorable four year old looked at her from across the table, her lips pursed for a second. ”a kid told me I didn’t have a family today…” she said quietly, Meili and even Luli a little, had been helping her a lot with her words, over the last year and she was actually better in her speaking than most children in her preschool. Meili was a little shocked at her statement. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. she gave the small girl a smile and reached across the table and took her hand softly. ”you have a family; Luli and I are your family.” she said softly to her. Luli, agreed with her, giving her little “sister” a side hug, squishing their faces together.
the look of concern was still there on the four year olds face though, ”so, you’re my mommy then? Lilah Erikson, told me I didn’t have a family because the teacher says you aren’t my real mommy and Lu isn’t my sister.” she said sounding desperate. Meili sighed softly and looked at her. ”oh sweetheart.” she stopped, thinking. ”legally… you are adopted, by me, and so is Lu, so you are legally, my daughter… but I was young when Lu was adopted, so we’re more like sisters than we are mother and daughters.” she said softly, trying to explain it, but it was hard to explain to a four year old. ”you young when I was adopted?” she asked, looking at her confused. Meili smirked softly. ”yes, not as young.. but yes… I was young.” she said softly. Jia got another confused look. ”why were we adopted?” Meili hated this question, Lu was usually one to ask her, but over the years it only came up a few times in a year instead of constantly.
what was she supposed to say? ‘well, you were adopted because a horrible man was going to start a child sex trafficking ring.’ then she would have to explain a whole lot more. she dreaded the day if they ever found out what she did at night. would they leave? would they hate her for what she did? would they understand that everything she did was for them? finally their food came and she was drawn out of her thoughts, but the four year old was still looking at her waiting. Meili gave her a sad smile. ”you and Lu were adopted because when I saw you, I didn’t want anything bad to happen to you..” she told her quietly. ”and I won’t ever let anything happen to you.” she added as she took a sip of her water. this seemed to appease the four year old and she started to eat her apple sauce. at least that was over for now, for now. 694 words for OPEN. outfit, Luli and Jia the adorable little girls! so cute. | Jeremiah hardly cooked. Sure, he enjoyed cooking a lot, but he hated the process of actually doing it. He was a good cook and he enjoyed making up new things with his creativity, but it got annoying. He hated massing his kitchen up with food and then he really hated having to dirty and then wash dishes. Okay, so, yes... He got lazy in that department of live, but do you blame him? Doing dishes sucked. It was the worst and he just refuse do to it most of the time. Needless to say, he usually went out for dinner. Most of the time, he really didn't even care what dinner was as long as it was fast and decently tasting. He spent his lunch and breakfast eating completely healthy, so he kind of got careless for his dinner situation. Some nights would just be a double cheese burger from mcdonalds because who cares. It was quick and sometimes it tasted really good, which felt bad to even admit. He hated mcdonalds with a passion, but some nights the sound of it didn't seem so bad.
Tonight was a lazy night and he decided to go out- - no big surprise there. Not that he really wanted to put the effort into going out and getting food, but... Lazy. Yes, too lazy to order pizza but not lazy enough to not go out into public. Plus he was having an odd craving for some tomato soup and grilled cheese - these things he lacked in his pantry and refrigerator. So, he reluctantly dragged himself into his bedroom to change into some real clothes from his gray sweatpants, which then he headed to a restaurant that was near his apartment. Walking distance. When he arrived, he quickly got seated and was given a menu to look over while the waitress was grabbed his iced tea with lemon wedge.
While he was scanning over the menu, he heard a few voices behind him... He may or may not have been intentionally eavesdropping, but hey, it happens, right? It sounded like three females; two young and one older. He recognized the voices, but he didn't exactly put two and two together. When the waitress returned, he gave her his order and after she left, he overheard the conversation the ladies were having. It was too familiar and soon Jeremiah was beginning to question if he knew this little family. He turned in his chair and looked at them - a sudden look of surprise came over his face. It was unusual for Miah to see people he knew when he went out, but it always caught him by surprise whenever it happened. It was always unexpected, but it usually was the best people he ran into. "Well, look who it is," he mentioned, a sly grin coming across his face. "Meili," he said almost as a coo, "I haven't seen you in what feels like forever." Jeremiah adored Meili; she was just too adorable and sweet in his eyes. Plus, she had those two little girls and they were just the cutest little things he had ever seen before. The little Wàn family was just a bundle of joy and adorableness to him and he practically adopted them as his own family.

Meili wasn’t expecting to run into anyone she knew; she hated running into people she knew. she was blissfully unaware that one of those people she knew was in the same place as she was. she loved Jeremiah, she worked with him in her big girl job. she knew that all hell would break loose if he found out about her night job. if he found out about how she obtained her little girls, he would probably murder someone. she would lose the girls and her job and end up in jail. he was always reassuring to work with because she knew he wouldn’t let her get hurt, or the kids that she was extracting from where they were. she still didn’t realize he was there, when she suddenly heard his voice. she turned to the voice, not evening needing to see him to know it was him. he cooed her name and she gave him a small smile, her dimples showing themselves full force. she had known him for a couple years now, and she might consider him a friend, but he was still a cop and her heart squeezed together knowing that. he could take her down if he ever found out what she did. she didn’t know if he really would do that, but she couldn’t be too careful. she couldn’t risky losing the girls. everything she did was for them. everything.
”Jeremiah.” she said with another small smirk. ”I don’t think it’s been that long..” she teased, she was always pleasant with him. he’d never done anything harmful to her or make her not trust him. she knew it was just the fact that he was a cop and she had been avoiding cops professionally since she was fifteen. she glanced to the girls, who both lit up when they saw who it was. ”Miah!” both girls chimed at the same time, they never had a problem with him and she knew that they loved him. he was always so sweet to them. of course, Luli had known him longer since she had been around longer than Jia. Luli had been around seven or eight when she met Jeremiah. Jia hadn’t even been around when they first met, but she had met him not long after Meili had gotten her. it hadn’t taken either girl long for them to warm up to the man.
both girls hopped up from the booth they were sitting at and ran over to the man. Meili couldn’t help but roll her eyes at them as they ran over to smother the man with hugs. Meili couldn’t complain that the girls loved the man so much, he was good to them and she could tell that he loved them too. who couldn’t love them though? she knew she was a bit biased but they were both adorable and well behaved. she was glad that they had a man to look up to, not that she believed that they really needed it, but at the same time she wondered how much different her life would be if she had someone there protecting her from the man that dragged her into the twisted world she lived in. she smirked again, listened to them jabber on and on to him. it amused her that he would actually put up with them. and she thought the girls were completely adorable bidding for his attention.

| It was true, Jeremiah was completely and utterly oblivious to what Meili's night job consisted of. It was completely stupid, but he had absolutely no idea. He also didn't know the true story on how those two sweet little girls were really brought into Meili's life, but he never poked nor prodded on anything. He never did that because he never suspected anything, he just figured that she really adopted them from an orphanage. It really was any of his business and he was about to make it his unless he absolutely had to, but until then, he was just gonna keep his nose in places that it didn't belong. In reality, if Jeremiah ever had discovered what she did as a second job, it would be his duty to take her down, but it was would ultimately hard for him. He considered her more than a friend and it was always difficult to take down his friends when it was necessary. That typically why he tends to never mix his personal life with his career. On the job, he knows that he's gonna get shit done, no matter how much he dislikes it...
In all honesty, he wasn't ever extremely close to Meili; they met through work a couple years back and become friends and hung out quite a few times, but it wasn't like he was completely involved in her life 24/7 and they were absolute best friends. He had noticed how reserved and restricted she was around him, but he never took offense to it or really saw a problem. He always thought she just liked having her space and didn't want to share anything personal. He could understand it, really; it was any of his business anyway. While they didn't hang out too often or knew that much about each other, he kind of just went ahead a adopted them as an extended family. He adored her and both the little girls, so why not? He loved them and he was pretty sure they him, so it just seemed necessary to him.
"Okay, well, out of work its been forever," he mentioned before rolling his eyes and chuckling at her. He beamed at the girls as they both gushed in unison before emerging from the booth and ran over to him to receive hug. "Ahh, it's my two favorite little girl!" he exclaimed. He wrapped one arm around each girl and pulled them both into a hug before smothering each of them with kisses. He release the both of them from the hug so they could finish eating and he turned to Meili, grinning at her. "You need in on some of the Jeremiah lovin' as well, or you gonna take a pass?" he spoke, jokingly of course, and chuckled.
