GRACELYN PORTER | |
It had been a week or so since Gracelyn had seen Ben, the man who helped her when she was pushed over by a very rude man. He and his dog, Myla, had been very sweet to her. She knew she wouldn't ever be able to forget such kindness, not that she wanted to forget him. However, she didn't know if she should keep seeing him because of the way her life would be changing in just a few months. What man would stick around with a woman who was having some other guys child? The thought even disgusted Grace. She hated even thinking that the baby that was growing in her belly was the child of the horrible person whom she was suppose to be able to trust. But instead, he took advantage of her while she was drunk and she ended up pregnant. Of course Grace didn't plan on ever telling him that he had a child, he didn't deserve that.
Ben had been so kind and went with her to check on her wrist. It ended up having a small break. It sucked but nothing she could do about it now and wishing it didn't happen wasn't going to get her anywhere, just take her pregnancy. The doctor put her in a stabilizing splint and told her not to do too much with that hand for a bit. It was so difficult, she didn't realize how much she needed that hand until she couldn't use it. Wasn't that just her luck. After going to the hospital, Grace hadn't seen Ben since. He was probably not interested anyway. He was such an amazing guy that any girl that ended up with him would be the luckiest girl alive and she knew she would be jealous.
Grace was sitting in her small apartment reading a book. She was so into it that she didn't even notice the first knock at the door. She was curled up on her couch with a blanket over her lap with a warm cup of coffee. Again, there was a knock, this time she heard it. Grace lowered her book and sat there for a moment, "I wonder who that could be?" She place the book down on the arm and pushed her blanket off. She was wearing cute pajama pants and hoodie. Lately, she had began wearing more and more baggy clothing. The baby was starting to grow more and her belly was starting to grow. Not a lot but just enough that she was able to tell a difference. It was starting to scare her. It was real now and that was very scary.
"Coming!" She called towards the door. She wasn't expecting anyone and was curious and yet worried as to who it was. Normally people she knew would call or text her before showing up at her door as she was still leary about everything and everyone around here. She reached for the knob with her good hand and turned it, opening the door slightly and peaking through.....

| The first few days after he met Gracelyn, he tried like hell to force himself to forget about her. He had spent all of his time in the army focused on his career and not on women, he had seen too many men get hurt or give up their career for the women they were with. Well, Ben found himself going towards those well beaten paths. Most of the guys at work mocked him; they either tormented him for being hung up on a girl after just meeting her, no real date or sex and yet he seemed hooked on her already, the others teased him for falling so fast. He refused to believe he was hung up or falling for her. There were about seven of the men; three were permanent bachelors, three were either seriously dating or casually dating, and one was married and had been for close to fifteen years now. The latter didn’t tease or torment him, but, simply told him that he would likely regret letting that one get away if he didn’t do anything. This was a huge city though, how in the hell would be find one girl out of hundreds of thousands of people.
That’s when they all seemed to get in on the planning. A lot of them were from new York or have been living there for a few years, so they all called in their connections to get her number or address tracked down. Honestly it probably wouldn’t have been that difficult since she was a model and they were usually all well known. He had a hard time believing that Grace wouldn’t have been well known. It only took a couple of hours, then he had her address and number in his hand. He could just call, but they all insisted that he actually had to go there and knock.
He waited a few more days before he got up the nerve to actually go there. He paced outside the apartment building for at least ten minutes, before he went inside, knowing that people were watching him and he was sure the cops had already been called to warn them that a crazy man was pacing in front of an apartment building. He got inside the building easily, of course, finding her door wasn’t hard either, though as he walked he kept checking to make sure that he had the correct door. He stood outside the door for a few minutes before he finally knocked. He felt like a creeper. People just didn’t do this sort of thing, or the fact that he literally used unites states military favors to get her address. When he finally knocked her was more than worried that she wouldn’t be there, but then he heard her talking, then moving around. He was now suddenly worried that she would be disgusted that he would track her down and show up out of the blue like this.
He was debating about running away or not, but then the door knob twisted and he saw her open the door and peek outside it. He couldn’t help but get a ridiculously boyish grin on his lips as he saw her. ”Uhh… Hi..” his accented voice was a bit rough as he spoke. He cleared his throat before he continued. ”I don’t know if you remember me… Ben… from the park?” he couldn’t say that he wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t remember him, but he whole heartedly hoped that she would remember him. He felt so stupid just standing there looking at her, his grin still in place. ”How’s your wrist?” he asked, feeling stupid again. Well she cracked it, it probably didn’t feel all too good since it had only been around a week since the accident happened. |

GRACELYN PORTER | |
In all her years, she had never met a man so sweet like Ben. He was the definition of a gentleman. That day in the park would have gone so horribly if he and Myla hadn't of shown up. She was forever in his debt for that. Most of the men she met were either gay, taken, or just in it for sex. Gracelyn hoped he was none of the above of that list and she really didn't think he was any. Well, he could have a girlfriend but she really hoped not. But who was she fooling, once he found out she was pregnant he would probably run for the hills. Most guys wouldn't stick around with a girl having another mans baby. The thought of that made her scared of ever telling him but soon, her belly would be big and she wouldn't have a choice.
All of this worrying had her stressed and tired. Add on the fact that she was one handed for a while made it even worse. Lately, she was just so tired. Luckily I seemed as thought the whole 'morning sickness' hadn't really hit yet, if ever. She hoped the latter. The thought of throwing up all the time horrified her. She hated that feeling even when she drank too much so never usually drank enough to feel like puking.
When there was a knock on the door, Grace raised a brow and looked at the clock? Who could it be? Minnie was probably busy with work or something and she really didn't hang out with too many other people. She made her way to the door and opened it slightly, looking out to see who it was. Her eyes got wide as she saw Ben. Wait, was it really him? She blinked a couple of times just to be sure and it was. Holy crap! How did he find her place? Never mind that, she thought, Ben was standing at her door! "Um..Hi.." She blushed, her cheeks turning a warm pink. "I don't know if you remember me...Ben...from the park?" Hell yes she remembered. How could anyone forget a guy like Ben. Handsome, sweet, and loved dogs? He was perfect really. "Hi Ben. Of course I remember." She gave him a smile and opened her door wide. There was no need to hide behind the door. Hopefully he didn't mind that she looked like she was slummin it in her pj pants and hoody.
Grace couldn't help but smile at his as he stood there. He almost looked, nervous? It was so sweet. Come in. No need to stand in the doorway." She motioned him in and then shut the door behind them softly. "How's your wrist?" He remembered, which made her smile and blush again. "Oh, it's okay. Trying to get used to not being able to use it." Her wrist was still pretty sore but the pain meds helped with that and not being able ot move it helped too. "How are you? Military treating you alright?" She grinned and walked them over to the couch, moving a few things before sitting down.

| Ben wasn’t exactly sure why the hell he was so nervous. This was something that shouldn’t make him nervous, it did, and he hated himself for it… He dealt with scarier things than a pretty blonde. But, he knew that it wasn’t her fault, it was all in his head. Apparently all the times he refused to let a woman distract him from his career in the army, was coming back at him with all the force it left him at. Since he had joined the army he didn’t want anything serious with a woman, he didn’t want the decision to leave her or for her to leave him because of a deployment. He didn’t want the worst to happen, and only have dog tags and a flag left in his presence. All it took was one pretty blonde to get herself knocked over by a jerk in the park. It took his old partner, Myla to be very attached to her, very quickly.
None of it made sense to him, there was no way it could happen this fast, but it was. He couldn’t help his grin as she peeked her head out her door. There she was, the blonde herself, the one that was causing him all this confusion. Of course, that’s who he came looking for. This wasn’t just some random coincidence. He saw her blush and that only made him grin more, it had to be a good sign right? As she pulled the door wider, her couldn’t help his smirk. It was a dressed down day? He was always a fan of those, on his breaks that he had to use up, most of the time, he would just lounge around in sweats all day if he could. He could appreciate that she did that too.
He nodded as she invited him in. He walked in, but stood there waiting for her as she shut the door. He saw her blush again and couldn’t help but smirk, again. It must be a good sign, he hoped. He was sure it was sore, and he hated the idea that she was still in pain. His shoulders shrugged with the question directed towards him. ”It’s going..” he said simply. It was just a habit, he really couldn’t talk about what he did in the military, especially when it came to emergencies and bomb issues. People frowned upon hearing about those sort of things. He followed her, waiting for her to sit down before he followed in suite. ”Sorry…. I just dropped in like this…” he said with a sheepish smile. He knew it had to be a surprise, since he wasn’t exactly supposed to know where she lived. He wanted to explain, but he wasn’t sure how to do it. ”I.. ah… I had a few guys call in a favor or two… to get me your address..,.” he said slowly, yeah, it still sounded creepy.. ”I wanted to make sure your wrist was okay… since we kind of just.. split ways at the hospital…” that wasn’t all of the truth, sure he was worried about her wrist, but he knew it wasn’t anything critical. Not something most military people would worry too greatly about. He wanted to see her again, more than he wanted to make sure she was okay. |

GRACELYN PORTER | | Grace couldn't get over the fact that Ben was standing at her door, here, right now. She was very happy he was though. Over the last few days, Grace had been thinking about him more and more. She wasn't sure what was wrong with her. She had vowed to herself that she would steer clear of men for a while, only ever having trouble with them. So far, the male population was only trouble for her. She was a well known model, of course men were going to recognize her. But she felt that that was the only reason men really spoke with her. She was model. So? Didn't anyone want to get to know her? Didn't anyone want to see the side of her that wasn't a model, that no one really knew? Dale knew that side and she was suppose to be able to trust him. Trust must not have ment much to him. Grace thought about the other women whom he managed. Had he done this to other women before? Maybe they weren't speaking about what had happened to them because they felt the same way as her. Who would believe her? Especially now. It was all just so frustrating.
But now she was trying to live a new life. She missed modeling and the girls she met and her friends but she could not even fathom being pregnant and everyone giving her looks, judging her. Lots of models ended up pregnant sooner or later but of course by their husbands or significant other. Not by their manager who took advantage of them. That was why she was so scared of what was happening with Ben. She could see herself loving a man like him. But would a man stay if they found out she was pregnant by another man? Would they call her a slut? It scared her and even thinking of having to tell Ben of what was going on made her sick. However, she pushed all these thoughts aside as she invited Ben into her small apartment. It wasn't anything special. Her and Minny still had yet to find a place to move into. But then that just brought another thought to her, she hadn't even told her best friend of her situation yet either.
Gracelyn saw the way he was looking. He must have noticed the way she was dressed and this caused her to flush bright red. "I felt like being comfortable today." She felt the need to explain it. When he walked through the door she closed it behind him. The smirk on his face was adorable, even if he was smirking at her. She walked towards the couch, explaining her hand. He seemed to genuinely care about her situation and that really made her feel better. "It's going." She playfully frowned at him as she watched him shrug. "Oh come on, you can give me more than that." She said playfully. Woa, was she .... flirting? It was very unlike Gracelyn as she was usually shy and quiet around handsome good looking men like Ben.
After sitting down, she watched him make himself comfortable on the couch. "Sorry..I just dropped in like this.." She couldn't help but grin at his cute smile. It was a suprise that he had stopped by as she didn't think he knew wher she lived. "I ..ah..I had a few guys call in a favor or two...to getme your address.." She smiled. He must have some good connections in the military. She didn't really mind that he had done it. If it was anyone else, maybe. But she was really glad he had found her. "I wanted to make sure your wrist was okay..since we kind of just...split ways at the hospital.." She smiled, shifting in her seat. "I ... I am very glad you found me, Ben." Her voice soft, shy...but honest.
She turned slightly in her seat so she was facing him better. Her pretty eyes taking him all in. Why was such a beautiful man like Ben sitting in her living room, on her couch? She didn't deserve such kindness, or at least she didn't think so. She felt like this whole situation with Dale and being pregnant was her fault. In reality she knew it wasn't but she couldn't help but blame herself. But now, now there was Ben. How was she suppose to tell him? Would he stick around? Grace let out a little sigh, it sounded tired. She then tried to hide her thoughts, "Can I get you a drinkn Ben?...Sorry, I don't normally get too much company." She gave him a small warm smile, blushing slightly.

Ben smiled softly at her as she explained why she was dressed the way she was. ”If I could be comfortable all day, I would..” he said holding his hands up playfully. ”no judgment on my part..I’m actually very jealous.” he said with a deep chuckle. He couldn’t help but grin more as she teased and flirted with him. That was a good sign right? ”We’re just doing drills… handlers and their dogs have to be prepared for anything… especially in my unit… but nothing serious.” he added with a shrug. There was talk of a deployment. But he didn’t want to think of it, it wasn’t set in stone so there was no reason to worry about what could happen.
He was surprised that she didn’t smack him or order him to leave her apartment when he explained why he was there, or how he had found her. He smiled at her, it wasn’t a smirk or a grin, but it matched the shyness in her voice somehow. ”I’m glad..” he said softly, his head nodded softly with his words. He couldn’t help but chuckle. ”I could easily say it’s endearing.. especially where I’m from… but I know this city isn’t exactly safe.. so I’m glad you took it the way I want it to be seen…” he said quickly.. but he stopped because he realized he was probably just going to make it worse.
He perked slightly at the sigh, but then it seemed like she had a change of heart. He wasn’t sure why she sighed, but he could only assume that it was him coming here. He felt stupid. Wouldn’t a phone call have worked just the same? He could have easily just called and asked her out on a date, but no. he had to do something stupid… very chivalrous and southern of him just to show up at the door of a girl he liked. Her question just confused him though. Was she just being nice to him? He wasn’t really sure. ”Ah.. no thank you, I’m fine.” He said politely.”thank you.. for offering though.” he added, just in case he wasn’t polite enough. He couldn’t help but smile at her blush. He had the urge to reach up and touch her cheek, to see if he could get even more to come up, but he didn’t. he was already doing one creepy thing that day and it was showing up at her apartment. ”I was actually wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime… I know that the hospital will be a hard one to beat.. but I would like to take you out on a proper date….. that is if you’re interested.” he said finally. IT felt good to get the looming question off his chest. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to wait for her answer though. The question was already out there so all he had to do was see if he was going to get rejected or not. He suddenly felt the brunt of his question and kind of wished he wasn’t been so blunt and straightforward about it.

GRACELYN PORTER | | Flirting was very new to her. Grace was never one to be the flirty type but when she was around Ben, it was almost just too easy. Part of it had to be his smile, it was just so sweet and genuine. To Grace, it didn't seem as though Ben would be the guy to give fake smiles. "If I could be comfortable all day, I would.." She giggled as he put his hands up, "no judgment on my part..I'm actually very jealous." She smiled, "Jealous huh?" she giggled playfully. "We're just doing drills...handlers and their dogs have to eb prepared for anything...especially in my unit..but nothing serious." Gracelyn watched him shrug. He didn't ever seem to want to talk about what he did. She wasn't sure if it was just because it was something that most people didn't want to hear about or if he didn't like talking about it. She wasn't sure what it was but she didn't really wanna push him.
Gracelyn wasn't really sure what to think about how he found her. In a way she was completely flattered that he even looked up her home adress to find her or if she should be a little creeped out by it. Not many people knew where she lived and that was how it was usually kept, when she had a manager. But being back in her home town, things were different. Most people didn't know she was actually back, other then Carmin. She wasn't sure she would be able to face all her other friends with her current situation. So, she decided to lay low. "I'm glad.." His tone was soft, careful almost. He then chuckled lightly, "I could asily say it's endearing..especially where I'm from...but I know this city isn't exactly safe..so I'm glad you took it the way I want it to be seen." Gracelyn raised her brow and gave a smirk. It was sort of adorable that he seemed to care so much but yet was still embarressed for how he found her. "I'm glad you found me." Her cheeks blushed even darker but it was the truth. She was very glad.
She knew she needed to talk to him about everything going on in her life rigth now but she wasn't sure how to bring it up. It just didn't seem like the right time yet. But shouldn't she tell him before he invested his time in a girl that was pregnant with another mans child? Would he even stick around when he found out? Grace didn't think that Ben was that kind of guy but she honestly didn't know for sure and was scared to death to find out. Ben answered her abouta drink, "Ah..no thank you, I'm fine." He was so polite, "thank you for offering though." She gave him a small smile. Grace couldn't help but be attracted to the very handsome man sat next to her. The closeness of him to her was nice. He made her feel safe, like nothing bad would ever happen to her. She had longed for that feeling. But why now? Her life was so complicated and she didn't want to scare him away.
I was actually wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime...I know that the hospital will be a hard one to beat...but I would like to take you out on a proper date...that is if you're interested." Gracelyn's heart seemed to skip a beat and her body flushed red. He wanted to go out on a date with her? Really? Her insides were jumping for joy but on the outside she kept her composure, as much as she didn't want to and wanted to leap into his arms. Grace wanted to be closer to him but held herself back. She didn't want to send the wrong message to him. Her stomach seemed to have butterflies ...but maybe that was something else, she wasn't really sure. She ignored that thought and looked into Ben's eyes, "I...I would love that Ben." She gave a smile, and looked down shyly, her voice soft and then looked back up at him. God, it was so hard not to reach out to him but she was so nervous. She didn't want to screw this up.

Ben nodded with a small grin. ”very.” he said with a playful grin. He was a little shocked that she was flirting with him, he was a little thrilled that this was actually working so well. He supposed he could count this for a victory, even if she rejected him. He liked this side of Grace, though he barely knew her, he already felt like he did. He couldn’t help but give her a grin, glad that she was happy he found her. That was a boost to his confidence, plus he was pretty happy he wasn’t going to be getting punched. He liked that she was so sweet. That’s what he wanted. That was the plan right? The ultimate plan to meet a sweet girl and marry her? That’s what the ultimate goal was where he was from.
Ben wasn’t about to be so composed. He might have been a patented army mutt. But, he was happy that she said yes. He was excited. He grinned softly at her. He couldn‘t help but smirk softly at her shyness. He reached his hand out gently and grabbed hers gently. He grinned a little more, his thumb rubbed a spot on the top of her hand softly, before he let go of her hand. ”So.. how about right now? I mean… if you’re willing… but there is no time like the present.” he said with a small laugh. He was pretty interested in her, he hoped that she saw that. He didn‘t want to give off the wrong signals to her though, he wanted to get to know her. To know everything that he could about her. He wasn’t just doing this so he could get in her pants, he wasn’t that kind of guy. This, was definitely a victory. ”We don’t have to though.. but if you wanted, we could go to lunch… or something… maybe finish that walk in the park?” he teased her with the last part.
