LAURA NATALIE CARLSON
[attr="class","apphoverbox"]
the red head sat in the chair in front of the desk. she had been told to wait in the office of the man who was to ask her some questions. she had been told that they just wanted to get to know her a little better before she started the following week. even so, she was nervous and was near certain that this was going to affect her job - that she had already gotten. she was a nervous person though, it wasn't something that she could help. she was fidgeting with the bottom of her shirt when she heard the door creak and instantly stood up and faced that door and the man who had entered the room as not to be rude. "please, miss carlson, sit." he spoke with a smile. "you look nervous, don't be." he reassured her as he made his way to his seat behind the desk. she sat as he did so. once he had sat in his seat he looked to her with a smile. "how are you?" he asked, tilting his head ever so slightly as he asked. she forced an awkward smile to her lips before answering. "good. yourself?" she returned the question, only being polite - that was how she was raised, she always remembered to act how her mother had taught her to when in the company of the people who knew you professionally. "i am good thank you." the man responded, looking pleased that she had returned the question. "do you want anything, a drink perhaps?" he glanced at the water cooler that was in the corner behind the door - he had closed the door when he had entered. "uh, water would be good actually." she said quickly after a quick pause to think. "don't worry, i'll get it." she added quickly before standing up and getting herself a cup of water and returning to her seat.
he let her take a drink of the liquid before speaking up. "so laura, may i call you laura?" he asked while seeming to indicate to her with his right hand. "i don't mind." she said with a smile. "good, laura. are you excited to start here next week, thursday i believe?" for a moment it seemed that the nerves lifted as a genuine smile formed on her lips before she responded. "oh yes, very. i've been out of work for about a year so it'll be good to get back to it." once she had spoken she wondered whether it was a good idea to mention that little fact. it wasn't like she was out of work for any negative reasoning, she had quit her previous job because it was horrible and her mother had died, leaving her a large sum of money that she then used to travel over the course of the year. really she was surprised that she was able to find a job when she had returned to new york. but she was happy that she did because if not she would have been a poor unfortunate soul living off the small amount of money that she had left - and that wouldn't be all that fun now would it. "oh, what's the reasoning for that, if you don't mind me asking." the man asked, tilting his head ever so slightly to the left as he did so. for a short moment she wondered whether he was considering rescinding her job application despite her already having the job, she went ahead and answered the question with a professional tone. "I've been traveling the past year." he nodded in response before speaking . "i bet that was a lot of fun. i'd like to travel properly but the wife doesn't fly. anyway, sorry." she gave him a sympathetic smile, assuming that he couldn't go anywhere without his wife.
