hayden very much resembles a kicked puppy or a scared kitten. he flinches at the smallest movement, especially from other guys. he apologizes too much and has zero confidence about anything anymore. his blue eyes always look sad and tired and frightened. he struggles to make eye contact with anyone and the second someone touches him, even by accident, like bumping into him in the hall, he panics. he stutters, calls everyone sir and ma'am, and refers to his abusive father was daddy. even in the summer he wears long sleeves to hide the cuts and scars on his arms along with the bruises in the shape of his father's fingers. changing for gym class is difficult and he never changes in front of others. he will lock himself in a bathroom stall and change there, making sure no one can see the bruises that litter his body. he also hates his body, believing himself to be hideous and fat. he almost never eats lunch at school, instead hiding in the bathroom or the library. food makes him anxious and he hates eating in front of people. really the only time he eats is at home during dinner but he barely eats enough to keep himself healthy and his weight is dropping fast. he's new here, having lived in charlotte, north carolina up until now, but a horrific nightmare during class after falling asleep forced his father to move the family to keep his and hayden's secret. hayden makes sure never to fall asleep in school now because most of the time when he sleeps, he has nightmares. nightmares so bad that he wakes up screaming. he barely sleeps at home, either, staying up late doing exercises in his room and only allowing himself to crawl into bed when he simply cannot keep his eyes open anymore. some nights he doesn't sleep at all.
friends are going to be difficult for him to make. he's an adorable, sweet guy but he's put up walls to keep others out. he doesn't talk to any of his old friends anymore and he's too shy to go up to others and talk to them. there will probably be mostly girls in this category because his father does not want him around other guys. enemies will be easier for him to make. he's an easy target for bullying because he never fights back. you can yell at him all you want and he'll just apologize. you can hit him, kick him, spit on him, throw things at him... and he won't ever lift a finger to defend himself. lovers will be very complicated. he's gay and has no interest in dating girls. he tried it once when he was sixteen but broke up with her after their first kiss because it felt wrong. it's very obvious that he's gay but if you ask he'll deny it every time. good boys can't be gay. the bible says so and his father has beaten that into his head (literally) time and time again.
