Quentin was always told stories about his birth, actually his parents actually always bitched about it. Never once hearing something good coming from that day apparently. But they had decided to have a child, shouldn't they be bitching at themselves? Oh, well back to the story then, it was the dead of winter, and Buffalo was one of the worst places to be that time of the year. This is the part where his father would always chime in and complain about having to visit his in laws. During that trip, the weather decided to misbehave, a lake effect storm whipped through the city, leaving most people trapped in their homes. You guessed it the Harpers were stuck, and their first child decided that way the time he wanted to show himself. After his father realized that they couldn't leave with his wife, it dawned on the family that they would have to do it at home. This was always the part that he drowned out, his mom always saying that had she stayed home in Brooklyn, they would have made it to a hospital. She could have not gone through the pain she did for him. Quentin Jacobi Harper was born in his grandparents home in Buffalo on February 13th, in the middle of a blizzard.
Growing up an only child, Quentin found that life was fairly simple. His parents weren't the bottom of the barrel money makers, but they also didn't have top dollar. So they lived comfortably in their home in Brooklyn. It was tough sometimes though, not having any siblings and the kids who live around you are older. They weren't always kind, one time they stole his bike, hell it still had the training wheels. At the age of five that's when Quentin held his first grudge. Still remembering the boy who stole his bike right in front of his eyes. It wasn't all bad though, he went to school and did fairly well. That was when his parents were proud of him. He'd come home beaming from a good report card, or that he got an A on a test. Although Quentin was craving attention, he had no siblings, and his friends were always up to something. He never really had a true best friend, which sucked if you were a kid.
At the age of fifteen, Quentin decided that he wanted to go into the field of photography and things of that nature. His parents actually listened, and invested in a nice professional style camera for him. It was his one true pride and joy. He forgot about the bike he had lost at five. Now all he gave a damn about was making sure that the world would somehow know his name. Until he hit the age of eighteen, his camera had been unused, he had no muse left. He'd shot outdoors, and people and things of that nature. It wasn't until he met Ariella Prescott. They were in the same grade for years, and he hadn't even noticed her. Of course the schools were huge in the city, so that could have been part of the reason. Sure, Quentin was on of the artsy kids in school, and wasn't super popular. But he got through high school without any issue. Ariella helped him get his love of the arts back, and to take up new things. Film was one of the major things he picked up on from her. It wasn't long after they started spending time together that he decided that she could be more than a friend.
Although, after two years of dating Ariella disappeared one night. Not texting him, not calling him like she did every other night. Frantic, Quentin ran to her home, her parents said she wasn't there. The next place he thought of was a coffee shop they frequented. He searched through, asking everyone about her. Then someone pointed to the bathroom. He slammed open the door, only to find his Ari propped up against the wall with a man. Furious, he turned and walked away. Ari running after him, but he ignored her. Fuming, but hurt all the same. That was his second grudge, Ariella Prescott cheating on him because he didn't want to sleep with her. Which apparently was right, so it wasn't worth the time that he had wasted on her hoping that she was a good girl, while he was out working his ass off to prove he was a good boyfriend. All of the time he had invested was obviously not worth the effort. Quentin had made so many choices because of her, the school he had gone to after high school. After all he had chosen to stay close so Ari wouldn't have to travel to see him. But apparently distance wasn't an issue, it was intimacy. She never had enough, after the two years he spent with her Quentin now vowed that he wouldn't give his heart to anyone unless they truly deserved it.
"So tell me Quentin, how did you decide that this would be the right field for you?'
"Well, I always thought I'd be doing something in photography. Or at least something close, yes I'm actually a filmography student, and about a year from being done but I can't help but think that this is the right thing to do for me right now. It'll help me at least see what I'll be dealing with, because I feel as though they are still close enough together that I can get my foot in the door. I've actually shot a lot of photos for things like school plays and events. I was their go to guy, not to get bigheaded. I just love the artsy side of it. Like sure, I love shooting film and actually looking at things move, but photography is definitely something I still love."
"Alright, well it sounds good there. Tell me your strengths and weaknesses that would have to deal with this kind of job."
"I mean, I hate admitting weaknesses, but I can go for that. I would have to say that sometimes I get a little impatient dealing with temperamental people. It's honestly the one thing that truly bothers me. Like they are getting paid for working the camera, but also standing in front of it. Why can't they just be happy? They are doing something that they hopefully love and are passionate about. Another would probably be that I doubt myself, if I see something that looks good to the eyes and shoot the shot, but later in edits I feel like they will all look awful. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure everything is perfect, well as much as it can be. Honestly, I really don't think I have many weaknesses when it comes to this kind of thing. My strengths though? Well, let's see, I will work for hours to make sure everything is just the way it should be. I kind of OCD about it. I go through every single picture making sure they are up to par on what the customer or consumer wants to see. Everyone says that I have a keen eye when it comes to that kind of thing. I'd like to say that I'm a hard worker, responsible and can say that I at least know what I'm doing. You aren't looking at some kid who just wants to see what's in front of the camera. I'm willing to help out wherever needed, like I wouldn't limit myself to say just what the job description is. If someone needs help, I'm willing to go out of my way to help them as long as I still get my job done."
"That actually sounds amazing, and just the type of person we need around here. So tell me a little bit more about yourself. Like what your personality is like at work and at home, that kind of thing."
"Thanks for making that one a little bit easier on me. Well, I grew up in Brooklyn, so I'm local. I'm an only child, and my parents have actually since moved to California since I've gone to college. So I'm actually fending for myself anymore. It's definitely helped me grow up, I feel like I can support myself. They've actually instilled that I'm strong and can do things for myself since I was younger. I know it sounds stupid, but it actually worked for me. Um, for personality I'd have to say I'm mostly laid back at home. I tend to just relax and spend time with my family when they are around. I work my ass off though, I'm willing to work and I think that makes me different from other people my age. I can get impatient sometimes, but it takes a really long time for me to say anything about it. I put other's wants and needs before mine more often then I should I'd say. I'm actually one of those kinds of people that likes criticism, it helps me out more than it hurts me. Oh, did I mention that I don't really like to talk about myself too much. I know it probably sounds like a lie right now, but I'm only trying to make sure that I answer your question. I was always that kid that made sure their homework was done thoroughly."
Meeting his future girlfriend
It had been a long day at work, although the hours never really bothered him. He could get back to his apartment at any hour, knowing well that no one was waiting up for him. Sure, it made it a little lonely, but the job was worth the pay, and it kept him comfortable. Quentin decided that before he'd go back to his lonely apartment he'd stop at a restaurant near his place. Just to get something that he hadn't thrown together in five minutes tops. It wasn't super busy, which Quentin was glad to see. Honestly he saw so many people in a day that sometimes crowds bothered him. A few moments after he was seated at his table for one, a girl he'd never seen in the city before like her. Trying to make sure to not look too much at her, he only made eye contact when he had to. She probably thought he was some kind of weirdo, but honestly he never really got around to asking her after they started dating. Quentin was never really nervous around girls, but for some reason this girl got into his mind. He didn't even know her name, and he didn't want to feel creepy about it. He realized after he had paid and left the restaurant, that she had told him her name. He had completely blanked out, he hadn't done anything like that since he left Ariella. Sure, he had gone on dates since then, but no one girl had really caught his eye.
It didn't take long until Quentin began frequenting the restaurant, although he definitely felt as though he shouldn't have come as often as he did. When he did get Carmin, he made sure to act on his best behavior. Sure, he flirted, but as much as he thought it failed, it always seemed like when she'd walk away she'd be smiling or giggling. It made him feel a little bit better, praying that she didn't think he was some psycho. The one day that he actually got the nerve up to ask her out for maybe it was coffee, or dinner, he honestly couldn't remember. It didn't matter either way, he got a phone call from work. They were having issues with the set or something like that for the shoot that was happening later in the day. His boss calling him, knowing plain and simple that he'd be there as soon as he could and the problem would be fixed. Quentin left in a rush, leaving money on the table before he could even see Carmin one more time. He was angry with himself for the rest of the day, he hadn't made his move. Maybe she was dating someone, maybe she just thought he was funny. Who was he to think someone like her would date him? She only ever saw him alone, maybe she just laughed because he was alone. Beating himself up over the whole ordeal. Until he was called into the shoot that he was working in. He had been checking some of the proofs that were taken earlier in the day. Not realizing that it was time for the new shoot to start. He walked into the room, prepared to apologize to his boss, but realized the girl that was standing in front of the camera. It was Carmin, who he had seen just hours before, who knew how many, the hours flew when he was working. Of course at the moment he stepped behind the his boss, who was working the camera, a wardrobe malfunction happened. Instead of looking at Carmin struggling to fix her bathing suit top, he hopped onto the set and fixed it for her. Not even realizing that he could have seen what he would have had he just stayed put.
"So, welcome. Nice to see you, you're all tied up now I can see, so I'm going to go back behind Emily now. Your shoot is going to be awesome." He said, a laugh stuck in his throat, sure it wasn't the most ideal situation he wanted to be in to talk to her. But it was better than nothing. As the shoot progressed, he went about his business, checking the proofs on the computer. Telling Emily whether it was too dark or too bright. Quentin rushed out when the shoot was done though. Hoping to catch Carmin at a good time. Praying that she was fully dressed, because he wanted to ask her out, but it would have been weird if she was still in a bathing suit. "Hey, the shots look awesome, just so you know. I know I haven't formally introduced myself, but I was hoping that you might want to grab coffee or dinner sometime?" He looked at her, trying to read her, but no such luck. He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. "Wait, I'm sorry. My name is Quentin, by the way. Nice to finally introduce myself without looking like a total weirdo." It didn't take long for her to say yes. Which he was amazed about, as soon as she left he swore he could jump higher than normal. His energy level through the roof, sure it was probably stupid, but Carmin was the first girl in the last two years that he actually had stuck in his mind. Now it was two years later, and they were still going strong. Every day he was thankful that he wasn't an asshole and just stared at her, instead of being the man he was raised to be and helping Carmin.

Questions asked during an interview for his current job
